Bubblin' Up: Baio

Chris Baio was already two albums deep into an incredibly successful career as the bass player for Vampire Weekend when he began his first serious ventures into production. That was towards the end of 2010, and after a year of extensive touring with his band, Baio had just returned to Brooklyn with some downtime at hand and a clear goal in mind: to produce tracks. Now, after the better part of a year's worth of stumbling, experimenting, and some old-fashioned trial and error, Baio has come up with a trio of summer-tinged house tunes to mark his debut into the production world, the Sunburn EP. Chatterbox: Jam City

In the works for quite some time, Classical Curves, the debut album from Jam City (a.k.a. Jack Latham), will finally see the light of day next week. Anticipation is high for the record, which is only the second artist full-length to be offered by the Night Slugs label. It's a love he returned to time and time again throughout the late '90s and early 2000s, but inexplicably abandoned for his other obsession, the bass guitar. On Ufabulum, his brand-new album for Warp, Jenkinson makes a long-awaited return to the realm of hyperreal electronic music, and brings a bit of those classic UK hardcore sounds with him. Brackles

Fresh off the release of his debut full-length, the London producer discusses what went into the album, the current state of UK funky, what's happening with his Blunted Robots label, and more. Read more »

High Five: Jimmy Edgar

Though the flamboyant 29-year-old artist is currently based in Berlin, Jimmy Edgar is probably best known for his strong Detroit roots, which have been fully apparent in all of his work since Warp released his first record in 2004. Fast forward through eight years and two full-length albums, and not a whole lot has changed; Edgar's recent LP for Hotflush, Majenta, reps the vintage vibes of stripped-down Motor City techno and electro as strongly as ever. We thought it'd be cool to find out exactly which classic cuts inspired his record's era-specific sound. Read more »
