Press Play: Carl Craig, Squarepusher, Lindstrøm, Balam Acab, and More
Wow—we've got a lot of reasons to be excited about this week's edition of Press Play. Namely, the likes of Carl Craig, The Field, Balam Acab, Squarepusher, Brackles, Karenn, Dauwd, Lindstrøm, Ghostpoet, and Joe Goddard dropped remixes, album previews, DJ sets, fresh original productions, and more for their fans to stream this week. It's a whole lot to take in, so we suggest that everyone starts clicking on those play buttons after the jump ASAP.
Though the midday poolside setting is somewhat awkward, Carl Craig's DJ set from Red Bull Music Academy x Boiler Room in Miami is definitely worth a watch, or at least a listen.
This seemingly unlikely pairing finds veteran DJ/producer/musician Squarepusher working with up-and-coming UK hip-hop artist Ghostpoet on a special version of "Meltdown."
Unknown Mortal Orchestra gave one of its new singles, "Swim & Sleep (Like A Shark)," over to Norwegian space-disco stalwart Lindstrøm for a sprawling remix treatment.
Here are two never-before-heard tracks which producer Balam Acab says are "old demos from over two years ago," called "La La La" and "Luminesce."
UK house and garage maestro Brackles dropped this heavily percussive remix of "The Natural World" by London band Cymbals.
As part of this preview of Delta Funktionen's upcoming record for Delsin, Karenn's chunky remix of "Onkalo" can also be heard.
The Field's remix of "One Armed Scissor," a 13-year-old single by the now-defunct post-hardcore band At the Drive-In, was easily one of the most surprising things to hit the internet this week.
For its brand-new Miami LP, Brandt Brauer Frick worked with vocalist Jamie Lidell on "Broken Pieces," a lively track which veteran German duo Mouse on Mars promptly remixed into oblivion.
Bibio shared this tenderly homemade preview of his upcoming Silver Wilkinson album for Warp over a month ahead of its official release.
Bubblin' Up producer Dauwd premiered his excellent remix of Cologne outfit Coma's new single for Kompakt, "My Orbit."
Hot Chip's Joe Goddard remixed "The Socialites" by Dirty Projectors, and delivered his lively results straight to the internet.
Released this week via Not Not Fun, Jonas Reinhardt's vintage synth-addled Mask of the Maker LP can now be streamed in full.
Check out Rainbow Arabia's aptly titled Sorcerer Mixtape for Dazed Digital, a 37-minute offering which finds the LA outfit re-interpreting Tangerine Dream's soundtrack for 1977 fantasy flick Sorcerer.
