Download: Jason Burns "See Thru You (Distal Remix)"

First Listen

Today brings the debut EP from an up-and-coming producer based in Cleveland, Ohio by the name of Jason Burns. The three-track See Thru You isn't exactly as sunny as the above artwork would lead you to believe, but actually follows suit with the dark and deeply soulful "Back 2 You" cut we shared a while back. The same goes for this solid rework of Burns' title track by busy Atlanta tunesmith Distal—who, incidentally, has his own EP on the way via Grizzly, as well as a new, two-track 12" coming from Tectonic. Needless to say, we're happy to hear these two promising artists join forces on this hard-hitting and touching production.

Review: Sepalcure Love Pressure Remixed

Label: Hotflush

It's a bit strange that Sepalcure would choose to release Love Pressure Remixed now, 14 months after the original EP first appeared. Over the past year, the Brooklyn-based duo of Travis Stewart (a.k.a. Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma (a.k.a. Braille) has not only dropped another EP, Fleur, but both producers have also released various solo offerings. So why elect to revisit the not-so-distant past? Read more »

Download: Skanky "Ghost"

London resident Louis Johnson (a.k.a. Skanky) just dropped the latest release from burgeoning Aussie imprint Templar Sound, the five-track Blind Spot EP (artwork above), which boasts three original tracks along with remixes from LOL Boys and Visionist. "Ghost" isn't found amongst the music on that new record, but it is a prime example of the producer's kind of emotive, bass-centric club tunes. Grab the track below and if it leaves you craving more, the entire Blind Spot EP is streaming here. Skanky also has a video of the EP's title track—which, incidentally, samples this '90s-R&B cut. Watch it after the jump.  Read more »

Download: Magic Touch "Clubhouse (feat. Honey Owens)"

First Listen
Label: 100% Silk

Sampladelic. It's a pretty cringe-worthy way of describing anything serious, but as far as the music of Magic Touch (a.k.a. Damon Palermo of Mi Ami) is concerned, its anachronism is entirely appropriate—and meant with positive connotations. Take "I Can Feel The Heat," the San Francisco artist's first release, out today on LA's 100% Silk label. Featuring cameos from Miracles Club's Honey Owens and Corrine's Joshua Anzano, "I Can Feel The Heat" acts as a sort of aural history lesson on the touchstone moments of classic underground dance music. As a way of introducing his sound, Palermo has offered up "Clubhouse," and like his other tracks—as well as the tracks of label and Mi Ami bandmate Ital, who we coincidentally reviewed just this morning—it strives successfully to insert itself before the hard boundary of linear time via a dizzying application of interpolation, simulacra, and samples. Download "Clubhouse" below, and head here to listen to the entire three-track release.
