RIP Clone Records

We know Netherlands-based label Clone for releases from the likes of Dexter, Alden Tyrell, and Legowelt. Sadly, future generations of music heads will not be seeing any new material from this label, as Clone recently announced it will be closing its doors.

Founded by DJ Serge in the late ’90s, the label championed a Dutch music scene that catered to fans of techno, disco, Italo, and what’s often been called “sci-fi electro,” as well as starting a re-issue imprint dubbed Clone Classic Cuts.

From a recent press release:

Crystal Antlers Announce Debut Album

Among the myriad acts whose names bear the word “crystal,” these guys are worth sitting up and taking a listen to. It isn't everyday, after all, that you hear punk music accompanied by pipe organs, which is exactly the brand of music Crystal Antlers offer to their fans.

AGF/Delay Ready Second Album

AGF's a busy lady. Besides unveiling not one, but two solo full-lengths in 2008, then producing Ellen Allien's Sool, the woman born Antye Greie-Fuchs has also been occupied with making the second album for her AGF/Delay project with partner Sasu Ripatti (a.k.a. Luomo, a.k.a. Vladislav Delay).

New Black Dice Album Due in April

Brooklyn-based trio Black Dice is preparing to release its fifth full-length, REPO, on April 7 via Paw Tracks. The aural alchemists have consistently been a go-to band for quirky, blurred, experimental noise tracks that are vaguely danceable form, as seen on the tracks from 2007’s Load Blown. The new album proves to be in keeping with the band’s general interest in the buzzy, fuzzy, and bizarre. Read more »

Animal Collective Launches Inevitable Tour

With all the Animal Collective/Merriweather Post Pavilion hoopla that's held our attention most of the month, we knew that tour dates for the band were a foregone conclusion. Likewise, it seemed inevitable that said dates would be great in number, given the upsurge in popularity AC is enjoying of late. Read more »

Twinight Presents Eccentric Soul Revue

The Numero Group’s Twinight label will present its first live performance, dubbed the Eccentric Soul Revue, on April 4 in Chicago’s Park West Theater.

The label founders created the event based on a desire to give more exposure to funky soul relics than the commemorative 2CD it released two years prior.

Nightmares on Wax Plans First U.S. Tour

Perplexing as the fact is, Nightmares on Wax has never actually toured the U.S., but George Evelyn is set to change that with a handful of shows that kick off at the end of this month. Dates are in support of 2008's Thought So, which was apparently inspired by a road trip Evelyn took from the U.K. to his current hometown of Ibiza, so it's an appropriate time for the legendary man to be traveling. He'll be supported at these dates by a large crew of musicians and vocalists.

School of Seven Bells Preps Tour, Single

Kraut-rock revivalists Fujiya & Miyagi announced a U.S. tour back in December, and they won't be going it alone for some of those dates. Benjamin Curtis and the Deheza twins (a.k.a. School of Seven Bells) are slated to join the band for several shows, drone melodies in tow.
