Download: Garben Eden "Ex Sited (Vakula Remix)"

Label: Ecstasy

Germany's "dancefloor-inspired electronic musician" known as Garben Eden released an EP called Ex Sited this week via The Miracles Club's Ecstasy label, which also featured his croaky stomper "Feel Good Agency" on its recent compilation. Now, we're treated to this remix of the EP's title track from Ukrainian artist Vakula, who adds ample space to Garben Eden's original mix by filling the head-nodding rhythm with breaths of white noise and a clicking beat.

Gear: Review: Rack Extensions for Reason

Propellerhead's Reason software can be a divisive topic amongst producers; some swear by it as their be-all and end-all production DAW, while others refuse to liken it to anything other than a toy. Detractors of the software have long pointed to the fact that third-party plug-ins (VSTs, Audio Units, and the likes) could not be used inside the program, arguing that this made for a less-professional product. Now, Propellerhead has attempted to meet those calls halfway with the introduction of Rack Extensions—offering a host of third-party synths, effects, and more developed specifically for Reason. Bubblin' Up: SFV Acid

California's much-maligned San Fernando Valley is primarily known by Angelinos for two things: strip malls and pornography. It's a total shithole, Los Angeles' Jersey City, they argue. But maybe the Valley isn't the cultural wasteland that Hollywood hipsters make it out to be—after all, that stretch of land bounded by the Santa Monica and the San Gabriel Mountains has produced a few wildly talented weirdos, including Paul Thomas Anderson, Flying Lotus, No Age's Dean Spunt and Randy Randall, and now, SFV Acid. Video Premiere: Cid Rim "Draw"

It's already been a busy week for Vienna's Cid Rim (a.k.a. Clemens Bacher), who released his debut album via LuckyMe yesterday and shared a remix of German producer Sam IRL's "Safety Hertz" the day before. On top of all that, Bacher has now given us this video for "Draw," an ebullient and stab-heavy standout from the brand-new Cid Rim LP. Read more »

Download: Lewis James "Peroxide Blonde"

After working as a record producer, Lewis James has stepped into the spotlight with his first official release, a four-track EP titled Heavy Romance. The EP, which was mixed by Om Unit and mastered by his Cosmic Bridge labelmate and ex-Various Production affiliate EAN, features three original tunes by the Amsterdam-based artist. One of them, "Peroxide Blonde," is a crunchy dancefloor burner that delivers its share of low end with a wobbling rumble that follows the gritty 8-bit melody. "Peroxide Blonde" and the rest of the Heavy Romance EP dropped this week via Raid System, and you can stream a teaser of Lewis James' new EP after the jump.  Read more »

Review: FaltyDL "Hardcourage" b/w "Our House Stab"

Label: Ninja Tune

Since his landmark 2011 LP, You Stand Uncertain, so effectively displayed FaltyDL's ability to bring together wide-reaching ends of the electronic music spectrum, the NYC producer's output has been—understandably—all over the place. It's not just merely in musical terms though, as the work which has followed his sophomore LP has appeared across a number of different labels as well, including releases for RAMP, Swamp 81, All City, and Ninja Tune. Now, FaltyDL has returned to the UK super-label which housed his earlier Atlantis EP, issuing a two-track single of dense dancefloor fare. Read more »

Download: Gimmix & Julei "Ciera"

First Listen
Label: Audiolith

Berlin outpost Audiolith is gearing up for the release of its Stiff Little Spinners Vol. 2 compilation, and the label has offered up one of the cuts in anticipation of the forthcoming record. "Ciera" is a tidy and quiet mid-tempo house groove that deals in swirling minutiae, like the tiny blips and bloops buried throughout the mix. The rolling number comes courtesy of Gimmix and Julei, two German producers who met in Leipzig. The duo's track will see an official release on August 24 alongside five other tunes from the Audiolith family, each of which you can preview after the jump.  Read more »
