Download: Mo Kolours "Mini Culcha (Beautiful Swimmers Remix)"

First Listen
Label: One Handed

Genre-melding producer Mo Kolours (pictured above, kind of) is days away from releasing a new EP—and coinciding 12"—via the One Handed Music imprint. EP2: Bannana Wine will serve as the second part of a planned trilogy of releases for the label, and, along with seven original Mo Kolours tunes, this remix from DC outfit Beautiful Swimmers is set to close out the endeavor. The duo's moniker is not too far off from describing this rework, as "Mini Culcha" gets dipped into pleasantly water-logged territory thanks to an array of spiraling filters and generous layers of underwater percussion. After giving the Beafitul Swimmers' take on the tune a spin, you can check out the full tracklist for Mo Kolours' upcoming EP, which is set to drop on March 19, following the jump.  Read more »

Review: Tevo Howard Monument EP

Pick

In recent years, Chicago producer Tevo Howard has been something of a machine, reliably turning out a new batch of high-quality house productions every few months. On his latest offering, the Monument EP, he even sounds like a machine, albeit in the best way possible. The three-track effort finds Howard crafting workmanlike house tunes that carry some real emotional heft—not to mention some dancefloor punch—despite their stripped-down nature. Read more »

Download: Tokimonsta "Fame Boozer's Lullaby (feat. Rucyl)"

Out of the goodness of her heart, Jennifer Lee (a.k.a Tokimonsta) offered up this woozy beat for free on her SoundCloud a short while back. As one might imagine, this freebie ran out of downloads pretty fast, but has nonetheless been making its way around the world wide web ever since. "Fame Boozer's Lullaby" features a soulful appearance from Philadelphia vocalist Rucyl, and is a lopsided, stoney endeavor that comes out a little more on the mellower side of the production spectrum than what we're used to hearing from Lee. But with its intoxicating spiral of sound and beautiful layers of haze, we're certainly not going to complain. (via FACT

Fans of Hot Chip's inventive take on house-infused, indie-tinged pop—not to mention being dizzy—are in luck, as the UK outfit's new video for "Flutes," the first single to leak from the group's recently announced fifth LP, In Our Heads, has plenty to offer in both categories. Read more »

Download: Orquesta "Celestial"

Orquesta's Our Final Expedition probably isn't the sort of record one would think of when imagining an album inspired by outer space. Instead of futuristic lazer-synth noises and robotic blips, Ireland-based Orquesta uses Latin rhythms and South American instrumentation to conjure images of space flight through astronomical bodies. Featured here, "Celestial" boasts a wandering pan flute melody over an easy-going, syncopated beat; it's the type of tune you might listen to while lazily flipping through an over-sized coffee table book about the solar system. The six-song EP will be the very first release from Meles Meles, a record label founded by Orquesta himself, and will arrive on March 27. A preview stream of the EP, along with the artwork and tracklist, can be found after the jump.  Read more »
