Download: Point B "Versus"

First Listen

Veteran London producer Point B (a.k.a. Richard Bultitude) will release his third full-length, The Veld, on January 30. Point B's shuffling, electro-tinged garage rhythms feel right at home at Frijsfo Beats, a UK imprint right in the thick of the recent bass-music explosion (artists such as Geiom, Submerse, and Cardopusher can all be counted among the label's ranks). "Versus," a track pulled from The Veld, combines atmospherics with dancefloor thrust, as Bultitude roots the song in mischievous bass while pushing it forward with pronounced percussion. After quietly amassing a catalog of dubstep and electro releases over the past decade, the complex "Versus" appears to indicate that Point B is expanding his sonic palette.

Download: Gavin Herlihy "In Space & In Time"

First Listen
Label: Culprit

Leeds-based producer Gavin Herlihy is set to drop a new EP, Endless Feeling, later this month. Here, we have a non-EP track from the burgeoning artist, "In Space & In Time," which finds Herlihy putting together an elongated excursion full of summery, disco-tinged vibes. The deep, catchy bassline and steady, percussive beat chug along as layers of spacey melodies and cascading synth runs fill the spaces in between, allowing the tune to flow with considerable ease. Weaving in and out of warm sonic spaces for over seven minutes, "In Space & In Time" manages to maintain just the right touch of rhythm and movement to keep bodies bouncing and heads bobbing. Following the release of Endless Feeling (out on vinyl January 20 and digitally February 1), Culprit already has plans to release a corresponding remix EP on February 6, which will feature reworks from a few like-minded producers, including Larse and Visionquest's Shaun Reeves.

Download: The Weeknd "High For This (Sibian & Faun Bootleg)"

By this point, the XLR8R staff is likely to approach most any rework of Toronto R&B darling The Weeknd with a certain amount of trepidation, but this bootleg remix from Montreal duo Sibian & Faun manages to strike just the right chord. On it, we find the two producers continuing to delve into the world of completely R&B-indebted bass music, which they showed an aptitude for on their recent Numbers single, "I'm Sorry". This bass-laden refix serves as the first release from Sibian & Faun's freshly minted label, which they've decided to operate under the name Half & Half. No word yet on what else may be in store from the imprint, but we'd be surprised if the future didn't hold more soulful pieces of gushing, moody bass like this one.
