Download: Solar Bears "Cosmic Runner"

John Kowalski and Rian Trench have sent us "Cosmic Runner," the second track to leak from their sophomore album as Solar Bears, Supermigration, a record with no official home or release date as of yet. The tune features dreamy pads and a compressed, '90s-style hip-hop beat cascading under a suite of saturated arpeggiations as it progresses through a variety of twists and turns. Anchored by a tough bassline, "Cosmic Runner" is an interesting new direction for Solar Bears, whose technicolor sound has been molded into a more foreboding context in comparison to the duo's 2010 debut for Planet Mu, She Was Coloured In. You can also check out the first track the Dublin duo shared from Supermigration, "Alpha People" (which features Keep Shelly In Athens vocalist Sarah P.), after the jump.  Read more »

Review: Kelpe I Felt Fuzzy

Label: Svetlana

Of all the artists to grace the roster of the still relatively young Svetlana imprint, Kelpe is the only one that could rightfully be considered a veteran. Responsible for a number of impressive releases in the mid-to-late aughts (most notably the Cambio Wechsel LP), he has fared through the ever-changing production landscape with his musical personality always intact—sculpting his characteristically funky style just enough to make sense alongside newer contemporaries, but never bending too far. I Felt Fuzzy continues in this tradition, an effort that's bound to please his long-time listeners while serving as a solid introduction for anyone coming across the Londoner's name for the first time. Download: Cristian Dinamarca "Needy"

Label: Top Billin

Here's a track from Swedish producer Cristian Dinamarca's debut solo release, a three-song EP titled Rey that was released by Top Billin late last month. "Needy" is a bassy bit of club music built for peak-time dancefloor action, with a chopped-and-pitched-up vocal sample as its main feature. The high-energy tune also exhibits some creative percussion work and synth stabs that mix perfectly with the heavy sub frequencies and fast-moving vocals. Although the EP has been out for a couple of months now, this is the first time any of its tracks have been offered for free. After the jump, you can stream the Rey EP in its entirety, which, in addition to "Needy," is composed of the title track and the song "Find Your Love," a production heavily reliant on a sample from Drake's song of the same name.  Read more »

Download: Space Dimension Controller "MK Zero 900"

Jack Hamill (a.k.a. Mr. 8040 a.k.a. Space Dimension Controller) has posted a free track that he unleashed in anticipation of his forthcoming debut full-length for R&S. According to SDC, he "made ['MK Zero 900'] specially for Benji B’s sci-fi special on BBC Radio 1." Hamill goes on to explain, "BBC sent over the show’s producer, and he sat in my studio while I made it in a few hours." The chugging sounds on display in "MK Zero 900" bring to mind a large, ungainly space vessel drifting on cruise control, slowly making its way to some distant portion of Hamill's brilliantly imagined Mikrosector-50 galaxy. The tune concludes with SDC's signature, a sort of '70s b-movie send-off. Needless to say, we're really looking forward to when Welcome to Mikrosector-50 drops later this year. For now, you can check out the trailer for the LP after the jump.  Read more »
