Video: Maxxi Soundsystem "Make or Break"

In the interest of honesty, we should say that the above clip for Maxxi Soundsystem's "Make or Break" isn't super compelling. It's not a bad video, it's simply another vaguely psychedelic montage of edgy people having an edgy night out. That said, the song is pretty damn great. Read more »

Download: Serani "No Games (Brackles Remix)"

Ahead of his appearance at the mammoth Rinse FM DJ and Blunted Robots co-label head Brackles (pictured above) has dropped this funky remix of Serani's 2008 dancehall hit "No Games." Brackles' shuffling percussion keeps the grooving island vibe of the original, but the producer updates the tune with a four-on-floor kick and a heavy bassline, making it more Rinse (and, of course, XLR8R)-appropriate. As we reported last month, the December 26 event will feature an impressive plethora of performers, including the complete roster of Rinse FM DJs. (via The Quietus

XLR8R x Beatport: Mosca

Over the past few months, XLR8R has been curating a special set of charts for Beatport. London's Mosca is an artist we're especially excited to have participate, as the genre-hopping producer has followed up his breakout 2010 with an even stronger 2011, dropping the stellar "You Done Me Wrong" b/w "Bax" single on Numbers, the techno-leaning Wavey EP on 3024, and a series of quality remixes along the way. While a couple of those productions are included on this chart he's assembled, Mosca devotes most of his 10 selections to the diverse sounds he's known for throwing down every time he climbs into the DJ booth. Download: Scuba "Never (Close Remix)"

First Listen

Although newcomer Close remains anonymous to most, he's apparently a connected dude, as he's already begun collaborating with such established artists as Ewan Pearson, Appleblim, and Scuba. Close's work with some of those collaborators will appear on his debut album, Getting Closer, which will eventually be released at an unspecified time in the future, but for now, the as-yet-unidentified tunesmith has sent over a remix of the aforementioned Scuba's "Never," one of the b-sides from the incredible Adrenalin EP. Close's version doubles down on the bass and replaces the freestyle-flavored original's breakbeats with more propulsive percussion. It's worth mentioning that Close has also completed remixes for Fink and Little Dragon, and is currently previewing clips from his forthcoming album on his website

Review: Presk & Cinnaman Sweat EP

The first official release from Amsterdam's Audio Culture imprint, this three-track collaborative record from Presk & Cinnaman is surprisingly huge. But we're not just talking about the sheer size of "Sweat" itself (though it is a pretty big tune); there are two massive remixes that back this record, from Instra:mental's Jon Convex and Ten Thousand Yen boss Doc Daneeka, both of which threaten to eclipse the original production entirely. Video: Fulgeance "London Falling"

After its release last month, Fulgeance's To All Of You was due for a multimedia treatment. In this case, not only do we get some trippy visuals to go along with "London Falling," but also a sort of visual remix of the album cover itself. Read more »

Download: Cut Copy "Sun God (Andrew Weatherall Remix)"

Label: Modular

Veteran UK producer Andrew Weatherall was tapped for a remix of the latest single to drop from Cut Copy's Zonoscope LP, "Sun God," and has delivered a sufficiently psychedelic and larger-than-life version of the jangly pop tune. Obviously, we can hear bits of Primal Scream in the mix (but maybe those could've come from Cut Copy themselves, actually), but we're quite partial to the churning rhythms and cyclical synth melodies à la Two Lone Swordsmen. Look for the rest of this single to drop with another remix from Weatherall on January 24.
