Download: Blastto "Windows"

First Listen
Label: Heka Trax

A longtime Spanish DJ who recently relocated to London, Blastto will close out Heka Trax's free summer EP series with his Windows/Point Aeri outing. Launched in July with an EP from Lee Carvallo, the series from the Nightwave-helmed label has aimed to introduce up-and-coming artists within the producer's circle by offering small helpings of their work. Though he's spent the better part of a decade behind the tables, Blastto is somewhat new to production, though one may not necessarily glean that from a listen to "Windows," his new EP's lead track. A weighted club affair, "Windows" focuses on its rhythmic content, splicing brief vocal samples and sharp synth stabs between its array of bulbous kicks, crunchy snares, and fast-paced hats. Out now, Blassto's Windows/Point Aeri EP can be streamed in full after the jump, and grabbed for free here.  Read more »

Download: James Johnston "From the Gutter to the Stars (Honor Among Thieves Remix)"

First Listen
Label: You Are Hear

Next month Glasgow producer James Johnston will issue his From the Gutter to the Stars EP via fresh NYC label You Are Hear. Featured alongside Johnston's slow-burning original on the EP—which will serve as the imprint's third release—will be a total of 7 remixes including one from Deepblak label head Aybee as well as the rework featured here from Honor Among Thieves. On its remix, the self-proclaimed "mysterious music cult" twist the record's title track into a sparse-but-steady jaunt towards the spacier and more eccentric ends of disco-indebted electronics. Johnston's full From the Gutter to the Stars EP is set to land on October 6.

Download: Saxsyndrum "Maceonectar"

First Listen
Label: Art Not Love

"Maceonectar" is the first track to surface from SXD_EP, an upcoming record from budding Montreal production outfit and sonic experimenters Saxsyndrum. A wonky beat with a touch of pop flair, "Maceonectar" is said to be composed "exclusively of saxophone samples," which appear with generous layers of manipulation, of course. As such, the resulting four-plus minute track comes flushed with a variety of unconventional sounds: airy lead lines, low-rumbling squawks, and metallic squeaks and clicks all find their place in the upbeat production. "Maceonectar" will be joined by a handful of other original tracks from the pair when Saxsyndrum's SXD_EP lands on November 4 via the Art Not Love label.

Download: Arsenal "Temul (Aashton Remix)"

One of three remixes set to appear on an upcoming remix EP for Belgian outfit Arsenal, UK producer Aashton's rework of "Temul (Lie Low)" reshapes the dark, cinematic pop tune into a driving club affair. Pulled from the group's Furu LP (released earlier this year), fragments of Arsenal's original track are refitted between a pumping four-on-the-floor and infectious hand-percussion patterns, on top of which Aashton places a few ethereal vocal phrases (in fact, those of Danish vocalist Lydmor, who features on the original track). Out this week, Arsenal's Temul (Lie Low) Remixes EP includes additional refixes from Belgian acts Faisal and Vuurwerk.

Download: Egokind & Ozean "Sinus"

First Listen
Label: Traum

Two young producers who met while both attending Berlin University, Egokind and Ozean are set to deliver their debut LP together, Transition, via the Traum imprint next month. Focusing their efforts on intricately detailed electronic hybrids (with an emphasis on sound design), the pair has offered album bonus cut "Sinus" as a free download ahead of the record's release. Running just under five minutes, "Sinus" is a melodically rooted production, one which sways with a half-time step as manipulated field recordings and FX create active rhythms throughout the stereo field. In addition to offering the bonus track for download, Egokind & Ozean have passed along a video for "Mega," the Transition LP's similarly dense opening track, which is premiering after the jump. The Berlin pair's full debut album is slated to land on October 3.  Read more »

Download: Gidge "Dusk"

Label: Atomnation

Today sees the release of the debut LP from Swedish duo Gidge (a.k.a. Ludvig Stolterman and Jonatan Nilsson) via Applescal's Atomnation label. Pulled from the nine-track Autumn Bells LP is "Dusk," a moody production which finds the pair lacing a crisp, skipping beat with long-winded pads and rich melodic tones. Spanning over nine minutes, the patient effort swings unhurried through its movements, giving the listener ample time to sink into each section of the dense, far-reaching production. Out now, Gidge's debut full-length, Autumn Bells, can be streamed after the jump.  Read more »

Download: Neneh Cherry "Spit Three Times (Lee Bannon Remix)"

First Listen

Originally appearing on Neneh Cherry's Four Tet-produced Blank Project LP (released via Smalltown Supersound earlier this year), "Spit Three Times" has been handed over to Lee Bannon for a remix treatment. As one would expect from the former XLR8R podcast contributor (who has an EP of his own on the way), the rework finds Bannon taking Cherry's track deep beneath layers of icy chords and cavernous textures, allowing the seasoned vocalist's lyrics only to seep through the few small cracks left in his murky reconstruction.
