MachineDrum "Late Night Operation Feat. Theophilus London"
- Words: Jennifer Marston
- Label: Normrex
The ever-prolific Travis Stewart is back with yet-another album as MachineDrum, and if you're not familiar with that particular moniker, think pop-drenched hip-hop that's been run through the synthesizer a few dozen times and given a finishing touch by someone like Daft Punk.
"Late Night Operation" appears on Stewart's forthcoming album, Want to 1 2, which will drop on Normrex in 2009.

anonymous and steve need to re-check your music taste and your knowledge of music in general. i dont understand this kinda shit talking and cheap hits at md...are you just jealous are stupid? because i smell a hint of both. this new album is going to big no matter what anyone says..
so a word to machinedrum, when you got out on a limb and make forward thinking street beats that are not the norm.. you are always going to get the haters who are not educated or smart enough to even catch the intellect. progression is a scary thing... only the educated can embrace. its that simple.

After listening a minute of it, I stopped. Then I decided to give it a chance. Huh! Not sure I would listen to it again, unless by accident. Travis has taken a very long time to come up with a new Machine Drum album. I am a bit scared of the next release to be. At this point I am expecting the worst so that I may not be so disappointed. I would agree that Travis venturing in electro-pop land needs some adjusting. Maybe he will get there ! Good luck

Wow. Look at all this. This may be a dividing song, and breaking away from Machinedrum's IDM roots, but its a dope progression into a more pop, vocal heavy sound. The album is ill, prepare. Stop the personal, off the mark slagging. Jealousy & Envy, Travis.

Hey, you guys really have nothing to do but find some fault. Most of the shet you even get to hear is no good... and Thelonius is way fresh compared to what else is out to hear... so what if he is inspired.. arent we all?
Travis you stand out as a new sound... My man and I jam u all the time. So, yeah you have taken a hip-hop/pop turn since Now you know , but this new stuff is good... it always is. Sorry if you other guys dont agree, Im not a dj or some other kind of potential music snob. I am actually a buyer of tickets and albums. I win.
Remember: No idea is ever truly original... all must be inspired by something else.
So give it up, haters

Pity the fool that doesn't get this track and album........there is too much hate in this world. I like that Travis has stuck his neck on the line, Want to 1 2? really seems to be standing up as creative venture outside of the insular and formulaic world of so called Glitch hop, whilst many of his peers have managed to get stuck in a rut, Travis has clearly sought to develop his sound for a wider audience. I think many people lose sight of the fact that Travis probably wants to entertain as many people as possible, whilst building a musical legacy. Why do people think they deserve to be given the same style of music they like by an artist repeatedly so they can live in their little niche. Personally I think that Travis should be lauded for Want to 1 2? , honestly do we really care about the detractors. They need to brighten up a bit!

IMO:
The sounds you have used are awesome. The first minute and a half of the track is good with the exception of the MC. I think his voice doesn't execute the right personality for the lyrics. He's missing umph. He doesn't sound genuine. I would have rather heard a vocoder the whole time. That might actually justify the silliness of the lyrics.
Aside from that, I like the production and you're tapping into some sweet sounds with this one, mostly in the first half of the track.
NOT IMO, FACT OF THE MATTER:
Some of these haters (especially the first Anonymous) are clearly miserable people, and they know it deep down inside. These kinds of people are coming from a negative place, and it's laughable how obvious it is
