Download: The Phantom "Let's Ride"

As The Phantom prepares his debut full-length for Silverback (which will also mark the label's first album release), the Warsaw-based DJ/producer has sent over unreleased bonus track "Let's Ride," a house cut laced with jazzy pianos and mesmerizing brass sonics. Laden with waves of synth pads, the laid-back piece maintains a sense of sustained satisfaction with its sauntering pace and delicate transitions between movements. The Phantom's LP 1 drops on April 28, but its artwork and tracklist can be perused before then, below.  Read more »

Download: Marcel Lune "Panthers"

First Listen

With his Hal 9000 EP out this week via Audio Doughnuts, Bristol up-and-comer Marcel Lune has sent over bonus cut "Panthers" to help spread the word. Spanning six minutes exactly, "Panthers" is a glowing bit of hyperactive beatwork, one which pins angelic vocal gasps and sweetened melodies underneath a series of sweeping chords and a bouncy, mid-tempo beat. In the end, the bonus production proves to be a nice accompaniment to the myriad of hybrid styles which Lune displays on his Hal 9000 EP, a four-track effort available to stream in full after the jump.  Read more »

Download: Super Duper "Circus Bird"

First Listen

Fitted with a grim arcade of murky synths and resonant drum kicks, Super Duper's "Circus Bird" is as awe-inspiring as it is bleak. A low-pitched brass loop that resembles baleful laughter opens the production before wonky, decaying synths fill the mix as it trudges along its daunting course. Somewhat resembling the early work of Hudson Mohawke, Super Duper's tune takes on a similar flavor, remaining playful while heading in a darker directions. "Circus Bird" will drop along with the rest of the Diamonds & Doubt EP via Apothecary Compositions on April 15. Previews of each of its four original tracks and three remixes can be heard after the jump.  Read more »

Download: Steve Murphy "Relax (Route 8's Relaxed Remix)"

First Listen

Having just dropped his Dry Thoughts EP, Lobster Theremin affiliate Route 8 (pictured above) is clearly set on a certain tone with his appropriately titled "Relaxed Remix" of Steve Murphy's "Relax," an laid-back cut of buoyant house. Route 8's minimalist voyage across quiet bleeps and delicate hi-hat taps ethereally skips around a steady set of slowly changing sounds. As with most productions that are this sparse, what little elements available can make or break the atmosphere of a track. Thankfully, the meticulous producer achieves his calm aesthetic with aplomb on this version of Murphy's mellowed-out tune.

Download: Joe Howe "Zequals"

First Listen

Preparing his first release for French label Sound Pellegrino, Glasgow-based musician Joe Howe (a.k.a. Ben Butler & Mousepad) has shared "Zequels," a frisky cut from his forthcoming EXEP EP. Alternating between segments of automated grinding repetitions and whimsical synth pads, the tune shows off Howe's ability to fuse these dynamic elements into an airy composition of high-spirits and splendid textures. More of Joe Howe's effervescent works can be heard when EXEP drops on April 21.

Download: Carisma "Talento Matemático"

Label: Cómeme

The Carisma project represents the combined efforts of Buenos Aires DJ/producers Carolina Stegmayer and Ismael Pinkler. Together, the pair recently delivered the Directamente EP for Matias Aguayo's consistently unpredictable and effortlessly fun Cómeme imprint, from which the loose-fitting "Talento Matemático" has been pulled. With a thick drum machine serving as the tune's backbone, "Talento Matemático" begins with a faint sequenced melody and wordless vocal echoes peppered with playful rythmic FX. Appearing to be in no rush, Carisma only begins to unfold the track well past its opening minute, lacing the tune with vintage chords stabs and new layers of charging hats which file in and out of the production as it runs its effortless course. In addition to this download of "Talento Matemático," Carisma has also passed along a video for its similarly vintage-leaning, Latin-tinged "Que Linda Tu Pradera," which can be watched in full after the jump.  Read more »

Download: MCFERRDOG "I Wanna See"

First Listen
Label: 1080p

The 1080p tape label is set to continue building its catalog at a speedy pace with the Club Amniotics album on its way later this month from MCFERRDOG, a new alias of burgeoning NYC producer Max McFerren. Pulled from the 10 "fantastical, weird-as-I-wanna-be experiments" featured on the record is "I Wanna See," a particularly emotive piece of uptempo house which bends curiously pitched vocal snippets atop its set of pulsing piano chords and airy pads. Though a bit off-beat, there is something intrinsically catchy and surprisingly uplifting to McFerren's track. Those curious to see where else the stateside producer plans to take his MCERRDOG project will have to wait until April 22, when Club Amniotics drops in both cassette and digital form. In the meantime, a video for "I Wanna See"—featuring an endearingly miniature narrative—can be watched after the jump.  Read more »
