Download: HolloH "Laying Awake"

First Listen
Label: Rare Beef

Hailing from Toronto, Nicholas Spencer and Parker Nowlan (a.k.a. HolloH) are set to release a self-titled EP via the Rare Beef label next week. Here we have "Laying Awake," a polshed production from the HolloH EP which serves as its most house-minded effort. Spanning over four minutes, the tune at first builds with layers of slow, moody chords and light melodic adornments, until—just after the one-minute mark—the pair lays into a low-reaching dancefloor stomp, from which it doesn't take its sights off for the rest of the track's heavy-handed run. HolloH's six-track self-titled EP is slated to arrive in full on August 5.

Download: Liar "Key Party (Spurz 'Key Bump' Edit)"

First Listen

Romanian producer Liar is next up to appear on Canadian label Infinite Machine's growing catalog, who has dropped notable EPs from recent XLR8R podcast contributor Pixelord and East London duo Wallwork & RZR in the past few weeks. With his Scorpio EP set to land via the label August 18, Liar has passed along this remix of EP cut "Key Party" from Canadian talent Spurz. On it, Spurz reshapes the track into an even more heavy-handed club affair, one where machine-made percussion rattles and rolls underneath a focused assemblage of blistering synths. Before Liar's full Scorpio EP sees its official release, the record is available to preview after the jump.  Read more »

Download: Remote "Alcyone (Matt Walsh Remix)"

First Listen

Matt Walsh (pictured above) is a London DJ/producer who serves as the driving force behind the Clouded Vision label. Next month, Walsh is set to issue The Clouded Vision Experiment Level 2, the second in a compilation series that will gather new and exclusive material from the label's catalog for a triple-vinyl package and an accompanying mix CD stitched together by the label head himself. Featured in the collection is Walsh's remix of Remote's "Alcyone," the title track of the French duo's 2013 EP for the label. On his rework, Walsh focuses on an uncomplicated drum-machine beat, which pulses underneath spacey processions of analog synths and gently tweaked acid melodies. Furthermore, Walsh takes two separate breaks during the course of his remix, cutting out the track's rhythmic elements in order to further highlight the depth of Remote's original synth work. The full The Clouded Vision Experiment Level 2 compilation/mix CD will see its official release on August 11.

Download: REKchampa "7713GHv2"

First Listen

The jacking, frenetic rhythms of "7713GHv2" will lead off the forthcoming All I Have cassette from rising Stateside talent REKchampa. One of six new productions included on the tape (which will be limited to just 50 copies), "7713GHv2" is lined with an appropriate amount of hiss that peaks out from behind the thick chords and restless percussion REKchampa utilizes during the course of the tune. Set to appear via Atlanta's fledgling Harsh Riddims label, the soul-washed All I Have cassette will see its official release on August 20.

Download: GL "Won't You See (Gerd Janson Dub Mix)"

First Listen

Melbourne-based duo GL (pictured above) will soon drop its Love Hexagon EP, a collection of glossy, funk-striped pop tracks that will serve as the pair's debut outing. Appearing ahead of the release is this dub mix of "Won't You See"—Love Hexagon's lead single—from Running Back label boss Gerd Janson. In his hands, the song is stripped of most of extremities, being refitted around a steady drum machine pulse, which comes highlighted by percussion hits that come bathed in heavy digital reverb. Holding on to its simply infectious groove for the remix's entire four minutes, Janson renders the track a dub by throwing coy snippets of spacey vocals atop the mix. GL's full Love Hexagon EP can be expected to arrive in September via the Plastic World label.

Download: Sieren "Prism (Duct Remix)"

First Listen

With appearances on Project: Mooncircle and Finest Ego to his name, Berlin-based producer Sieren (pictured above) will shift his aims more towards the dancefloor on his upcoming The Convoluted Truth EP. Said to find Sieren delivering "five slices of deep, UK bass-inflected experimentation," the upcoming record (which will see a release via the Shades label) is preceded by a remix collection, from which Duct's take on EP cut "Prism" comes to us. On it, Duct refits the original track into a more efficient structure, focusing on rhythmic bass-weight and detailed percussion while filling the production out with subtle atmospherics. Out on August 4, Sieren's upcoming The Convoluted Truth EP can be streamed in full after the jump while the record's accompanying remix collection—which also features reworks from Fybe:one and Manni Dee—can be downloaded for free here.  Read more »

Download: Deebs "Wake Forever"

First Listen

Toronto-based producer Deebs is set to drop a helping of new material in September, and has decided to pass along the slow-brewing "Wake Forever" to give a better idea of what to expect from the budding talent's next outing. A track that has served as the opener for Deebs' recent live performances, "Wake Forever" presents a heavenly procession of re-pitched vocals, which stutter and pulse atop outstretched sub-bass notes and a dense procession of skittering half-time rhythms. Topped off by a subtle bell melody, "Wake Forever" is a patient production, and one which leaves the Canadian talent plenty of room to go just about anywhere on his forthcoming record.
