Hailing from Madison, Wisconsin, Golden Donna is the latest producer to add to the growing catalog of Amanda Brown's 100% Silk label. Pulled from Golden Donna's new II album for the imprint (out this week), "Empty Charm Vessel" is a track which exists somewhere between analog synth music and retro-lined darkwave. In truth, it all comes off more as a composition than a track, the song's six-minute run landing on a number of different musical sections, each with their own distinctive moods and melodic hooks. The vibes woven throughout Golden Donna's new tune are furthered emphasized by its blurry, clip-heavy video, which can be seen after the jump. Read more »

After releasing the Iridis EP under his Alight moniker last year and announcing that his next record will drop via the excellent Houndstooth imprint, UK DJ/producer Ross Tones (a.k.a. Throwing Snow) dropped a record via his own Snowfall label from Vellico, a collaborative project with his brother Alistair Tones. Here, the duo has sent over London producer Chocky's smooth remix of "Beck's Brew," a cut from Vellico's brand-new The Pennines EP. Chocky's seven-and-a-half-minute groove flows through an unbroken rhythm, opening up with a steady four-to-the-floor pulse before it adds airy synth waves to the mix. Vocals and light hi-hats help keep the textured tune fresh; "Beck's Brew (Chocky's Groove Mix)" is a fine example of combining minimalist tendancies with engaging patterns and a thoroughly sleek production aesthetic.
Better known for operating as Lenta, Russian producer Rasul Gafarov will take on the new handle Nenado for his upcoming Your Sketch cassette. "Like Attracts Like" appears early on in the seven-track effort (out March 17 via the ever-diversifying Astro:Dynamics label), and builds a slow groove from its small assemblage of pot-and-pan percussion and a soupy mixture of reversed chords. Across its three-minute run, the tune is hesitant to overload its pattern with sounds; only a hat and a lazily hummed vocal melody are added to the bare-bones cut, which effectively makes an inviting case for the less-is-more approach to electronic production. Before Your Sketch drops later this month; its artwork and tracklist can be found after the jump. Read more »
Returning from a year-long silence, the Silverback label has rebooted with Piri Piri's colorful Patterns EP. Featured here, "Ice Cream" boasts the talent of Londoner Sally Crumb, and revamps swift cuts of choppy, eccentric vocals into rhythmic instruments. Brightly cascading synth arrangements are juxtaposed with resonant drum constructions on "Ice Cream," creating a diverse assortment of textures throughout the rich arrangement. Alongside Piri Piri's own vivid tunes, the recently released seven-track effort features remixes from the likes of Visionist, Matthias Zimmermann, Neana, and Jean Nipon.
By now, remixes appearing in our Downloads section from Dutch producer Julien Mier isn't exactly unexpected. The man's take on Arts the Beatdoctor' "Moebius' Travels" (which appeared as a free download in its original form in the fall of last year), is just the latest example of Mier's reworking capabilities. Here, he pulls Arts the Beatdoctor's production out from its subterranean starting point, exchanging the low, bellowing reach of the original for a sound that is much more precise and lined with airy textures. "Moebius' Travels (Julien Mier Remix)" appears alongside a handful of others on the Lazy Thunder Remixes EP, out now via Lowriders Collective.
UK imprint Get Some is kicking-off 2014 with a debut EP from newcomer LinG, titled Anthracite and set to drop on March 3. The original version of the record's title track lays a dense groundwork of growling low-end, and on HØRRA's remix, the London producer completely removes its wavering, high-pitched synths, adds in a percussive dancefloor beat, and simplifies the bassline. Ahead of its release, LinG's forthcoming Anthracite EP can be previewed after the jump. Read more »
In truth, Aashton's original version of "Show You"—the title track from his forthcoming EP—was already well steeped in late-night vibes, but with his "Night Dubbing Mix" of the track, the Brighton producer does dial down the push of the original in favor of a bit more space and a deeper sonic palette. The resulting six-plus-minute song comes sprinkled with blue-streaked chords, refixed R&B phrases, and just the right touch of rhythmic skip, and will close out the forthcoming Show You EP when it drops on March 3.
