Download: Microburst "Firth (Manni Dee Remix)"

First Listen

Brighton producer Manni Dee may be better known as one-half of Habits of Hate, his collaborative effort with Happa which dropped its debut EP earlier this year. Here, the budding UK artist appears on his own in order to remix "Firth," a track from Microburst's upcoming Occulting EP, which will serve as the Temp Lake imprint's inaugural release when it drops on June 30. Coming with virtually no outright musical notes to speak of, Manni Dee's rework is a production which focuses on its textures, lacing thick, detailed drum patterns with a steady array of static-filled pads and cavernous FX.

Download: 6MAKA6 "Helium"

First Listen

Candian beatmaker Hesk has decided to take on a new name for a new project, 6Maka6, with which the producer aims to reimagine the lineage of footwork within the context of raw club tracks. Serving as our first taste, "Helium" is a fine introduction to the new alias, its run filled to the brim with intricate rhythmic patterns, sharp chords stabs, and a tasteful dab of vocal chops. Though just over four-minutes long, 6Maka6 finds a seemingly endless amount of ways to dissect his beat, constantly fitting rolling snares, crisp claps, and metallic FX between the tune's steady pulse.

Download: La Roux "Uptight Downtown (Midnight Magic Remix)"

First Listen

Hailing from Brooklyn, Midnight Magic (pictured above) is a five-piece cosmic disco outfit who will join the ranks of the Soul Clap label later this year with its Vicious Love EP. In the meantime, the group has dropped off its remix of "Uptight Downtown," a recent vintage-streaked single from UK synth-pop diva La Roux. True to form, Midnight Magic elects to cool down the vibe on its remix, letting a spacious bed of synths and guitars ride atop a mellow disco beat filled with enough percussion to keep one moving, but by no means in a hurry. Stretching "Uptight Downtown" past the seven-minute mark, the rework oozes lush tones in all directions, helping the production live up to the cosmic aims with which the Brooklyn five-piece has aligned itself.

Download: Citizens! "Lighten Up (TÂCHES Darkened Down Remix)"

First Listen
Label: Kitsuné

After delivering our top download for the month of April, anonymous UK producer TÂCHES has returned with another freebie for the XLR8R faithful. This time around, the budding talent offers his new remix of Kitsuné affiliate Citizens! (pictured above), a pop band of sorts whose "Lighten Up" track is rendered into a darkly focused dancefloor exercise in the hands of TÂCHES. Flushed with brooding synth tones and thick, rounded bass, the rework chops the outfit's original into a more efficient package finished off with the slightest touch of melodic flair and airy vocal murmurs.

Download: Moiety "Noboru"

First Listen

Jesse Sappell is a budding Los Angeles-based producer who operates under the name Moiety while serving as a co-founder of growing LA label and club night The Melt. Spanning over seven minutes, "Noboru" is Sappell's latest production—a dark and dense romp through machine-minded techno and alien textures. To his credit, Sappell takes his time developing the track, painstakingly adding rushes of percussion, strong-armed synth sequences, and washes of gritty textures to "Noboru" as it steamrolls its way through its elongated run.

Download: 2ndSun "Intentions"

First Listen

Earlier this month, budding English pair 2ndSun issued the four-track Bespoked EP via Ben Pearce's fledgling Purp & Soul imprint. Here, 2ndSun has offered a bonus cut to that record, the chord-soaked "Intentions," which finds the duo crafting a garage-indebted affair which leans heavily on the back-half of its swing. Led by a delayed vocal sample and a handful of floating melodies, "Intentions" is a bluesy house production fitting for an outfit who has released on a label so unabashedly focused on both "purp" and "soul."

Download: Break SL "Malström"

Founded in 2010, Dresden, Germany's Uncanny Valley has put together a small but certainly respectable catalog in its time, passing the 20th release mark earlier this year. For its recent 21st release, the label tapped frequent contributor Break SL to deliver four restless hardware-born house tunes for his Atlantic Ocean Road EP. Closing that record is "Malström," a track which utilizes a friendly dancefloor beat on top of which thick analog lines and percolating synth glitches are placed and manipulated throughout. Out now, Break SL's Atlantic Ocean Road EP can be previewed after the jump.  Read more »
