21-year-old producer Klaves (a.k.a. Mikolaj Gramowski) marks himself as an artist to keep an eye on largey because of his willingness to play around with and break down how house music can be presented. For a shining (and shiny) example of this, look no further than Gramowski’s “Closer” tune. Starting out with an intro that suggests a mighty house jam is about to unfold, Klaves continues his steady build before dropping it into a half-time stomp which he maintains for the track’s duration. It’s a surprising and effective trick to use the lush arrangements commonly associated with current UK garage tracks (soulful vocals, shimmering keys, et al) with drums that suggest more influence from Sango than Julio Bashmore. The rest of Klaves’ debut EP, At Dawn Again, is set to be released on April 15 via Koh-I-Noor, but can be previewed before then, after the jump.
