Retro soul and funk outfit El Michaels Affair tackles the Wu-Tang Clan for its latest release, a collection of 15 Clan tracks the group has transformed into instrumentals and dubbed Enter the 37th Chamber. "Duel of the Iron Mics" originally appeared on GZA's 1995 solo album, Liquid Swords, to which Wu-Tang members Ol' Dirty Bastard, Masta Ace, and Inspectah Deck contributed. Camilo Lara (a.k.a. Mexican Institute of Sound welded folk, electronics, and vintage synths together on his recently released Soy Sauce album. For those who take their Latin music with just a bit more kick, here's the highly danceable remix of "Yo Digo Baila," in which one of Berlin's busiest DJs and producers, Shir Khan, transforms the cut from tribal to techno.
Though it's been a little while since we heard anything from Foals, the Oxford, England-based outfit hasn't been idle. The band is rumored to be working on a follow-up to 2008's Antidotes, but they've ventured into remix land too, reworking this track off The Field's sophomore album, Yesterday and Today.
Mexicans with Guns is an avid remixer of other artists (Faunts, Animal Collective, and XRABIT & DMG$ among them), but for once, he's getting the remix treatment of his own work. Sally Shapiro has finally unveiled the first single off her forthcoming follow-up to 2007's Disco Romance. As with previous tracks, her longtime friend and collaborator Johan Agebjörn produced the cut, this time with help from producer Roger Gunnarsson, and Shapiro's sound is as steeped in '80s Italo-disco as ever. "Miracle" will be out June 16.
Seed Records latest signees, Eyes, dive into the psych-meets-no-wave sound palette on their forthcoming debut album, Night Eyes, which also happens to be the band's first proper studio recording. The band brings its lo-fi, DIY aesthetic to light with this track, which will perk the ears of Ariel Pink or HEALTH fans. Night Eyes is out June 1.
The Emperor Machine shares a new track with fans, off his forthcoming Space Beyond the Egg release. Given Andy Meecham's taste for synthesizers, it's no surprise they abound on this track, along with plenty of percussion. Space Beyond the Egg is out June 1.
