Bay Area-based Solos Records will soon unleash the second installment of its Solos in Stereo compilation, which will showcase the label's main core of artists, as well as a few guests. Residents on the imprint include eclectic producer Jovian, sampling master Roche, DJ Enso, and CB Radio, who prepped this electro-disco banger–complete with some seriously chopped up vocals from Argentinean frontwoman Cecilia Elguero–for the sampler.

XLR8R June/July cover stars Hercules and Love Affair began their musical collaboration over some casual studio sessions, and four years later, the duo of Andy Butler and Antony Hegarty have attracted the attention of DFA captain James Murphy, finished a full-length album (set for release in the U.S. on June 24), and ushered in a new channel of disco for the next generation. "Blind," from the new album, has already torn up the charts in Europe and is threatening to do the same Stateside. Ohio-based neo-classical composer Tim Story has made a life-long ambition come true teaming up with producer Hans-Joachim Roedelius, better known as the producer behind German band Cluster. The two began working together in 1996, and for Inlandish, their latest collaborative album, they brought in Roedelius' trademark pianos, acoustic instruments and jagged electronics. It's a challenging listen, but, as with many things in this world, ultimately rewarding by the end.
Brooklyn-based funk imprint Daptone Records has been busy digging out its most treasured 45s and compiling them together for Daptone 7 Inch Singles Collection, Vol 2. The digital-only compilation was released earlier this week, and sees 13 of the label's most famous tracks from artists like Lee Fields, the Mighty Imperials, and Sharon Jones. Daptone laced us with this groovy, soul number from Charles Bradley, whose raw vocals make a pretty convincing case for his broken heart in the track.
Producer J Rawls–responsible for work with Mos Def, Masta Ace, Talib Kewli, and other hip-hop greats–teamed up with vocalist Middle for this collaborative album simply titled Rawls & Middle. The two apparently met by random chance when Rawls needed a vocalist, and after that brief project, they decided to make a full album together. The result is a release that explores a variety of musical styles, from future-jazz to Latin to downtempo, while Middle Child's voice soars over the never-ending supply of catchy hooks and basslines.
S.F.-based label Machete Vox is set to unleash its first sampler, Sneak Preview and from the sounds of it, the compilation is shaping up to be a fine showcase of Bay Area hip-hop from the likes of Dnae Beats, Boac, Conceit, Million Bucks, and even an appearance from Gift of Gab. Z Man–who also drew the cover for Sneak Preview–provided us with this track off the sampler, which features Dnae Beats on production duties.
