Download: Whiskers Po "Yes"

Label: Hot N Heavy

Earlier this week, San Francisco label Hot N Heavy dropped the four-track Yes EP from Stateside producer Whiskers Po. Today, the label has passed along the record's title cut—a R&B-striped piece of glossy bass music—for free download. Spanning over five minutes, "Yes" is rooted in house, it's steady four-on-the-floor initally serving as the base for a set of airy chords and re-pitched vocals—then, the bass drops in. Precisely programmed, the active bassline jumps just ahead of the beat, leading the soulful, rolling procession throughout the course of its dancefloor-focused run. Out now, Whiskers Po's Yes EP can be streamed in full after the jump.  Read more »

Download: Poliça "Chain My Name (Kauf Remix)"

Kauf is a man of many talents. The Los Angeles resident is a musician, vocalist, beatmaker, and—as can be heard here—a skillful remixer. Tasked with taking on Poliça's "Chain My Name," Kauf turns the driving space-pop track into a much darker affair, stripping much of the original's vocals back while redirecting the effort towards more cavernous terrain. Adding swarms of buzzing, reverb-laden synth layers, Kauf infuses "Chain My Name" with a loose stomp, which continues to pick up momentum as the producer adds airy hats, crisp claps, and collections of distant percussion which help push the remix to the end of its climactic six-minute run.

Download: Eckoclick "Dream in Colour (2ndSun Remix)"

Since the beginning of this summer, 2ndSun (pictured above) has made regular appearances in XLR8R's Downloads section, offering up sleek club hybrids that have certainly gone down nicely. Now the UK pair returns with a new remix in hand, having recently reworked Eckoclick's "Dream in Colour" from the fellow UK duo's forthcoming self-titled EP, which drops via Sonic Router on Monday (another remix of an EP track was offered for download courtesy of Bambooman last month). True to form, the burgeoning 2ndSun duo reshapes "Dream in Colour" into a more club-appropriate affair, splicing a resonant bassline and thick, faintly skipping rhythms into Eckoclick's soul-strewn original track.

Download: NEVERMIND "Slimer"

Since July, NEVERMIND (the collaborative project from LA producer Grenier and Petey Clicks, of Clicks & Whistles) have issued two EPs via Trouble & Bass—conveniently titled Part 1 and Part 2 (the most recent of which dropped last week)—and released a free pack of bootleg edits. Continuing on its prolific run, the freshly formed pair has offered up a bonus cut from its recent EP sessions, "Slimer." Spanning over four minutes, the production places slinking chords between a half-time shuffle, picking up melodic synth sequences, gliding pads, and interlocking layers of hi-fi percussion as the bass-focused tune moves throughout its run.

Download: Eytan Tobin "Spaiku Talks"

First Listen

Born in Israel and now based in the Canadian city of Toronto, Eytan Tobin is the next artist slated to step up for the Rare Beef imprint, dropping his For Everyone EP via the label next week. Leading the forthcoming effort is "Spaiku Talks," a sharp slice of beatwork which weaves crystalline melodies and hand-played thumb pianos amongst tightly wound rhythmic patterns. To this swirling, ever-so-slightly off-kilter base, Tobin adds only light touches of synthetic vocal textures, using most of the track's three-plus-minute runtime to rearrange and gently manipulate the track's core patterns. One of four productions to be included on the Canadian talent's upcoming outing, "Spaiku Talks" and Tobin's full For Everyone EP will see its official release on September 9.

Download: Ilya Santana "Big Foot (Thomass Jackson Remix)"

First Listen

For his remix of Ilya Santana's (pictured above) new single, "Big Foot," Argentinian producer Thomass Jackson takes the track even further down the space-disco path. Reinforcing the rhythmic structure of Santana's original, Jackson spreads "Big Foot" out wide, leaving space for each of the track's nuanced details—its thick analog basslines, gooey synth melodies, and precise guitar strums—to shine through uninterrupted. A somewhat looser affair in its original form, the rework finds Jackson tighten up the track, its aims more dead set on the dancefloor. Available to download below, the Argentinean producer's remix is one of five slated to land on Santana's Big Foot EP, out this month via the Retrospective imprint.

Download: Elusive "Forbidden Fruit"

First Listen
Label: Alpha Pup

Daddy Kev's ever-growing Alpha Pup label is set to add a new LP from budding LA talent Elusive to its catalog later this month. Pulled from the upcoming Blue Blanc album is "Forbidden Fruit," a jazz-touched production that finds Elusive trying his hand at the off-kilter rhythms, loose percussion, and bluesy chords that have become staples of the SoCal beat scene. Still, Elusive finds ways to add his own touch to the proceedings, taking time out to focus on some delicate snaps and hiding sneaky Rhodes leads underneath sections of the lopsided affair. "Forbidden Fruit" can be downloaded below before the producer's Blue Blanc LP officially lands on September 16.
