Logan Hicks Announces Farewell Show
- Words: Cameron Octigan
Logan Hicks (a.k.a. Workhorse) has called Los Angeles home for the last seven years, and it's certainly embedded throughout his work (which includes graffiti prints and custom bandannas for XLarge, but now the artist sets his sights on New York to continue his artistic mission.
Hicks began his career as a screen-print artist, working with Shepard Fairey and Dave Kinsey in Baltimore before moving to Los Angeles to ransack the bustling urban art scene. Unfortunately, he had to sell his equipment in order to move, leading to his best-known forum: stenciling.
His work has evolved over the last decade decade-long run–birthing intricate stenciled caricatures from multi-colored sneakers to psychedelic leafs and profusely detailed (and often rundown) urban landscapes. K-Swiss, Disney, Red Bull, and Royal Elastics have all commissioned Hicks’ work, adding urban flare to advertising campaigns (not unlike Hicks’ peers Sub, Fairey, and Kaws).
“The Farewell L.A. Show” will feature new works and several vintage pieces found while Hicks cleared out his studio–a gift from heaven for extreme fans and collectors searching for rarities. The opening reception goes down on May 17 from 7 p.m - 9 p.m. Have wallets and drinking hats well attached.
Farewell LA runs from May 17-July 4 at XLarge Upstairs Gallery.
