Cassettes Won’t Listen Remixed by Styrofoam, Mad Decent, Blockhead
- Words: Tomas Palermo
Seems like catchy indie-pop artist Jason Drake, who records as Cassettes Won't Listen, also has an altruistic side. Drake’s music philanthropy includes giving away one remix per week for a month to celebrate his new single, “Paper Float.” Last week, Drake offered the public German producer Styrofoam’s (The Notwist, Lali Puna, Ben Gibbard) mix, and new remixes will be posted each week via his MySpace page. Upcoming remixes are from Mad Decent (Diplo and DJA), Blockhead, Maker, Aaron LaCrate, Scott Thorough, and more.
Drake, a marketing director at indie hip-hop label Definitive Jux, has been involved with music since 2001, and incorporates hip-hop, electronic, and indie elements in his vocal-based music. On March 11, Cassettes Wont Listen will release Small-Time Machine, his first physical album. Drake will also be busy at this year’s South By South West conference, where he will perform day shows at the Convention Center and University of Texas, before his official showcase at Lamberts on March 15. Catch his free remixes as a preview of more good times in Texas.
