Bad news for Daft Punk fans in China, particularly those who paid for a ticket to the rumored “secret show” that was announced yesterday via a now-defunct Facebook message.

The Shanghaiist website reports that a performance was planned for Friday, February 13, in which the famed French duo would give a special, one-off performance showcasing material from a new album. Fans were encouraged to pay 500RMB ($73 USD), despite the fact that anyone who pre-ordered a ticket wouldn’t have a clue where they were headed until the morning of the show. Which means that, in addition to forking over nearly $100, fans would also be issuing their personal phone numbers, to receive venue information via SMS.

An alarming 3800 tickets sold for the event, but it looks like, as of this morning, no one in Shanghai will be seeing Daft Punk any time soon. Daft Punk’s PR agency—not to mention, a host of other sources—has denied that there are any performances slated for Friday night, in China or in the rest of the world.

Suffice to say, the rumors are flying right now.
