Daedelus Preps First Release for New Label
- Words: Jennifer Marston
Albums sales keep dropping and everyone knows it's hard to make a living off releasing music, but if you're a glass half full kind of person, a new project from Daedelus and friends might brighten the morning.
Friends of Friends (FoF) is a brand-new label whose straightforward mission statement lies in its namesake. FoF invites an artist to make a split EP. Said artist then asks a second band or musician (presumably a friend) to complete the split, then a designer is called upon to create artwork, which is displayed on a limited-edition t-shirt. Buy the t-shirt and you’ll get a download card that includes not just the EP, but remixes, videos, and other rich-media goodies.
Says the label of this concept, "The hope is to help re-invent how music is released in a way that is not only more involving for the artist (A&R, artwork, marketing), but, more importantly, truly enticing for the fans."
The aforementioned Daedelus is first up, with Friends of Friends Volume 1. The man known to his wife and friends as Alfred Darlington invited fellow L.A. residents Jogger to participate, while husband/wife design team Kozyndan made the cover/t-shirt art.
As for those rich-media extras, the package also comes with remixes by Michna, Eliot Lipp, Nosaj Thing, Meanest Man Contest, and more. Shirt and music are both available tomorrow, for a mere $32.
