Barcelona’s El Guincho will be bringing his infectious rhythms and moody Spanish dance pop to North America at the end of September and into October with dates in New York, LA, and San Francisco. After his first record, Alegranza!, won the hearts of indie dance kids the world over with its intensely repetitive rhythms and tropical samples back in 2007, he’s returned with a new record, Pop Negro. El Guincho’s slightly deviated from the tribal sounds of Alegranza!, instead employing drum machines, synthesizers, and the likes on Pop Negro. Our recent feature on his new release finds him sharing some deep insights and theories behind his endeavor into the land of “dark pop.” Only eight days of shows in the US exist so far, but more dates will be announced soon.
