Over the past year, forums have rumored about the imminent death of the historic Technics 1200 turntable, but now Panasonic has officially driven the knife into the heart of the proverbial DJ coffin. Officially announced October 20 and published yesterday in The Tokyo Reporter, Panasonic said that it will discontinue the production of the Technics SL-1200MK6 analog turntable, the SH-EX1200 analog audio mixer, the RP-DH1200, and RP-DJ1200 stereo headphones. This should hardly come as a surprise to DJs who have watched the analog age increasingly replaced by a digital one, and there’s no official word yet about the fate of the other 1200 models, but it’s not looking good for the turntable that has long been celebrated as the industry standard.
