Salem Set to Release Debut Album on IAMSOUND

The sinisterly wonky and crunked-out tunes of Chicago's Salem are moving into a full album format this September with the release of its debut record, King Night. After releasing a series of limited-edition 7" EPs, the trio has pulled together 11 tracks to flesh out Night, which will be released by one of XLR8R's Labels We Love, IAMSOUND. Read more »

ZZK Raising Funds, Taking Chancha via Circuito, Tremor, El Remolón, and More to North America

A couple months ago, we shared some news about Buenos Aires-based cumbia digital label ZZK prepping a lengthy tour which would include a full list of North American dates. Well, some of those dates have been announced, and it looks like a bit of the West Coast will be treated to the likes of Tremor, El Remolón (pictured), Chancha via Circuito, and El G come late July/early August. LA's Proximal Label Premieres New Beat Scene Mixtape

It's getting to be that calculating the size of SoCal's mass of labels and artists dedicated to the region's beat scene is becoming a task meant for N.A.S.A.'s computer mainframe, but that doesn't mean we've lost interest. Another new label has appeared on our radar, and we'd like to bring you the inaugural taste of what it's all about. The new LA imprint, Proximal, is the brainchild of producers Carl Madison Burgin (a.k.a. Sahy Uhns, pictured above) and Jeff Elmassian, who launched the project to provide a hub for local producers to come together. Read more »

Rinse Releasing Compilation of UK Funky Hits

From the collective hub of forward-thinking house and bass music, Rinse, comes a new compilation encompassing the top contemporary jams heard throughout the UK's dancefloors. The release, entitled I Love Funky, is comprised of two discs, each mixed by a separate DJ. Supa D handles the first mix, MA1 (above) the second, and artists the likes of Zinc, Roska, and Major Lazer make appearances on the compilation. Read more »
