Buraka Som Sistema Hosts Dance Contest

Does the sound of kuduro make you want to move something? Well, Buraka Som Sistema is inviting you to shake what your mama gave you with your mama, along with the rest of your crew, for their “Sound of Your Community Dance Contest.” The contest intends to celebrate the music, dance and culture of Angola, in combination with other local cultures, by asking participants to create and submit videos showcasing their own community’s flavor to the tune of the group's single, “Sound of Kuduro.”

Medusa

A Shoreline Dream has had a few collaborations with ambient producer Ulrich Schnauss, most recently at this year's SXSW festival. And while the band bills itself as a "melodi-psych" outfit, this performance, which took place at Austin venue Elysium, holds far more shredding than melody making.

Steven Harrington Does DJ Mix, Incase

Here at XLR8R, we're often asking visual artists what they listen to while working, and it seems the folks over at Incase harbor similar curiosities. So, when commissioning L.A.-based Steven Harrington to participate in its Curated by Arkitip collaborative series, which it conducts with L.A.-based art magazine Arkitip, the accessory company also asked him to create a mix from music in his collection.

Omar Rodriguez Lopez Unveils New Band

El Grupo Nuevo de Omar Rodriguez Lopez might sound like a recently created project, but if you've kept your ear close to the rumor mill over the last few years, you'll know that The Mars Volta's über-prolific frontman has been conceptualizing the outfit since 2006. Cryptomnesia will be the group's first release, with contributions from Hella's Zach Hill and Jonathan Hischke, Juan Alderete de la Peña, of The Mars Volta, and vocalist Cedric Bixler Zavala.

Zizek Brings Cumbia to the North
