DJ /rupture Announces New LP as Jace Clayton

Last we heard from Brooklyn DJ/producer/label head/academic/global music aficionado DJ /rupture, the artist born Jace Clayton was giving an Ableton seminar on his intriguing Sufi Plug-Ins and giving away basically every mix he's ever released. It's been almost three years since the once prolific artist dropped any kind of music with his name on it, let alone any original material, but that will soon change when Clayton unveils The Julius Eastman Memory Depot, the first album released under his given name. The forthcoming LP was recorded with the help of pianists David Friend and Emily Manzo and Sufi vocalist Arooj Aftab, and is said to be a collection of the ideas uncovered during Clayton's recent performances of re-imagined compositions by the late Julius Eastman, a gay African American composer, pianist, vocalist, and dancer noted for his minimalism. The record ends with one wholly original piece, called "Callback from the American Society of Eastman Supporters." Speaking on his forthcoming album, Clayton says, "I interpret the open-ended, irreverent nature of Julius Eastman's legacy as a call to conversation." Before it's released on March 26 via Brooklyn's New Amsterdam label, you can hear a snippet of The Julius Eastman Memory Depot over on Pitchfork, here, and check out its album artwork and tracklist below, where you'll also find upcoming tour dates for both DJ /rupture and Clayton's Julius Eastman pieces.
