Gold Panda Readies Second LP for Ghostly, Shares First Single

It's been a full two and a half years since the shy UK beatmaker Gold Panda shared his lovely debut album, Lucky Shiner, with the world, and though he's kept plenty busy releasing one-off singles and EPs (not to mention chatting with us), the follow up to that LP feels long overdue. As such, it's with some sense of relief and anticipation that we can share word of Gold Panda's second full-length record for Ghostly, Half of Where You Live (artwork above). The album announcement arrives not long after the producer's Trust EP was unexpectedly posted online, sharing only its title, artwork, release date, and lead single. Gold Panda describes his LP as a "city album," saying that its music was inspired by his time in Osaka and Sao Paolo and "conceived as a hypothetical soundtrack to '90s anime and the films of controversial director Takashi Miike." Speaking on the first taste of Half of Where You Live, "Brazil," the producer says, "I wanted to make a track that soundtracked my ride from the airport to downtown. The [vocal] sample is kind of like an excited chant, bigging up the place, then it all gets confusing to replicate the traffic and buildings." Fans can expect Gold Panda's next album to drop on June 11 (courtesy of Ghostly and Notown), while he's in the midst of a sizable world tour. Before then, those dates and the new "Brazil" single can be found below.
