Busy Londoner Max Cooper has been all over our publishing schedule as of late, with this week’s release of his debut albumHuman and yesterday’s appearance in our Artist Tips feature series. An understated artist who values craft over image, the burgeoning producer’s latest video reflects that sentiment with shadowy figures filling out the clip for album cut “Empyrean.” Directed by Joseph Murréll, the metaphysical piece weaves through a number of silhouettes of both human and animal bodies overlaid with intricate lines resembling nervous systems—reminiscent of Alex Grey imagery—visuals which are then interspersed with kaleidescopic shapes. The earthlike symbolism pairs with Cooper’s emotively celestial tune, as the cascading piano, melancholic strings, and glitch-focused beats portray the artist’s attempt to translate the concept of heaven into music.

Furthermore, Cooper is days away from launching an extensive tour that will see him travel through Europe, to North America, and back again, ending in late August at the Utrecht Festival in The Netherlands. The current list of those upcoming performances is available below, where the video for “Empyrean” can also be found.
