XLR8R Does Movement 2009

Detroit being Detroit, where the roar of 4/4 beats has been the city's primary danceable soundtrack since the 1980s, it isn't surprising that what you'd get at Memorial Day weekend's Movement Festival is an overdose of high-voltage, raw techno power. Artists came ready to play in the sun (no rain this year, temperatures remained at a near-perfect 70 degrees all three days), cheating no serious raver an earful of big-system, stage-rattling (literally), and, quite possibly, deafening bliss on four massively rigged stages.

Håkan Lidbo and Co Start New Festival

A new electronic music event is about to kick off, namely, Sweden's Volt Festival. DJ/producer Håkan Lidbo (of Pokerflat and Mille Plateaux fame), one of the artists involved in the planning, sent an email out earlier today indicating just what to expect.

Free Cock Rock Disco Compilation

New monstrosities are coming from Jason Forrest’s Cock Rock Disco imprint these days, in the form of Monsters of Cock Rock Disco, and we don’t need to look much farther than this compilation’s tracklisting (below) to see how the release lives up to its name.

Monsters of Cock Rock Disco is the label’s first sampler in three years, following The Cock Rock Disco 2006 Free Compilation, which included the likes of Food for Animals, Duran Duran Duran, Drumcorps, and others.

Sonar Does New York

As previously reported, Barcelona's Sonar festival jumped Stateside for a hot minute this spring to unveil a U.S. debut at Sonarsound NY.
