Their friendship formed over a mutual love for a Stevie Wonder tune, and Dusk + Blackdown have been DJing and producing music together ever since, rolling out the dubstep and grime beats and generally causing havoc on the dancefloor. Based in London, they also run Keysound Recordings (which is to release the duo's debut long-player Margins Music on August 18), and capture the dark environment of their city through their music.

For the next installment of the XLR8R podcast, we turn our attention towards the inventive and at times quite bizarre roster over at Sufjan Stevens' Asthmatic Kitty imprint. Founded in 1999 by a collective of like-minded musicians from Michigan, the label has since risen to prominence thanks to the likes of Rafter, Shapes and Sizes, Cryptacize, I Heart Lung, and Stevens himself. Musically diverse and always impossible to pin into one genre, this mix is a good indication of what's in store for the label over the coming months.

Before D is for Disco, E is for Dancing drops though, the boys are unleashing a sneak preview of the release exclusively on XLR8R.com. Ploughing through 45 songs in about 10 minutes, the boys cover everything from Ghostface Killa to a clip from A-Trak's recent Nike Run track to Kid Cudi, Treasure Fingers, a little baile funk, and a lot of disco.

Todd Osborn's latest full-length arrived in record stores yesterday, and those curious about the new album, created on a hand-built computer and simply titled Osborne, should check this mix. The multi-talented producer–who, we discovered is as adept at making lego sculptures and speaking Japanese as he is at crafting music–delivers a mix of slinky, sultry house, fast-paced techno, and a few lush, layered string arrangements. The result, almost named "curmudgeon," became kranky, a record label that routinely pushes the sonic limits of music. Out of appreciation and admiration, we invited the label to pick out some tracks to represent the history of their pioneering label.
