Choosing our favorite artists currently based in New York is a little bit like entering a movie rental store and realizing there are so many items to pick from you don't know where to begin. Bands and producers of every genre are scattered through every corner of every borough, and while it was impossible to cram every single last favorite into this hour-long mix, the XLR8R.com crew has done its best to give you a healthy sampling of the current sounds of the city.

XLR8R June/July cover stars Hercules and Love Affair bring the new disco to the mix, while Drop the Lime turns Boy 8 Bit's chip-tune sound into a bass-heavy affair. The boys in Ratatat show off their guitar chops with a track from their recently released third full-length, Eliot Lipp spins some leftfield instrumental beats, and rapper Immortal Technique reminds us what truly bold hip-hop is all about.
