Podcast 130: Floating Points—My Plastic People
- Words: Shawn Reynaldo
London's Floating Points is often lumped in with the rest of the city's burgeoning post-dubstep (or whatever it's being called this week) scene, but it's not unfair to say that 23-year-old Sam Shepherd is operating in his own sphere. Whether assembling tracks on his own, running the leftfield Eglo imprint with partner Alexander Nut, or leading the grandiose Floating Points Ensemble with a bevvy of live musicians, Shepherd clearly isn't just another UK bass music producer. As this My Plastic People mix—made in tribute to the endangered East London nightspot—proves, his tastes extend well beyond electronic music—much of the podcast focuses on jazz and funk gems from the 1970s, with only a few newer cuts making an appearance.

Busted! Sorry about the geographical screw-up. We now know that Plastic People is in East London (and changed the text accordingly).
