Podcast 135: Trentemøller

Denmark's Trentemøller initially made a name for himself by skating the line between minimal techno and and electro-tinged house, often crafting epic songs that catered to both the mind and the body. In 2010, however, Trentemøller is garnering attention for the severe left turn taken on his second album, Into the Great Wide Yonder. The Copenhagen-based artist has headed into darker territory, relishing in psychedelic dirge and more organic sounds, and this new style is reflected strongly on this exclusive mix he completed for XLR8R. Segueing from pulsing beats into guitar squall and thick distortion before dabbling into druggy wonk and cathartic pop, Trentemøller has assembled a mix that's a far cry from the average night at the club.

I'm usually not into mixes that combine electronic music with rock, but this is just really, really good. Excellent track selection and flow. Thank you for this. Now off to find some of these records.

Seems to be a bit of a David Lynch theme to this. The Angelo Baldametti was written for the Twin Peaks movie, and obviously the sparklehorse stuff is related. The Nina Simone and Beck tracks were both used in INLAND EMPIRE (could be a coincidence, obviously both tracks have merit in their own right). Plus the second half just all sounds totally Lynchesque.

This is all a good thing.

Definately got the creeping sleave vibe of a lynchian feature - and all the better for it! Good to hear a more varied selection from anders, top mix

Wow. This is one of the first mixes that has caught my ear in a long time. Completely immerses you!

I think Trentemoller could pick up the Optimo crown - he is picking up where they left off - especially with the David Lynchy stuff.

He even made the amazing, but overplayed, Sinnerman sound fresh.

My mate hipped me to this mix and it kills all the way through. What an ear this guy has. There is a David Lynch theme, or rather a dark Baroque garage rock bent. It's blood red all the way through. It's great to hear a techno artist have such snarl and attitude. The Angelo Badalamenti, Vampire Hands, Bruce Springsteen, Suicide, Stones, and Black Angels are like razor blades through a thigh high. Painfully delightful. It's a your de force for a mix. If I were at a party and heard this mix I would write a thank you letter. A+.
