Podcast 153: Wolf + Lamb

NYC duo Wolf + Lamb is best known for its long-running series of underground parties, but the pair's label continues to churn out a steady stream of quality music that walks the line between techno, house, and disco, and the boys—born Gadi Mizrahi and Zev Eisenberg—recently unveiled their debut full-length, Love Someone. We're guessing that they're gearing up for their annual trek to Burning Man, where the guys can hopefully bring an oasis of good tunes to the awfulness that populates the playa, but in the meantime they've put together this exclusive mix for the XLR8R podcast series. As one might expect, the Wolf + Lamb dudes bounce from one genre to the next, juxtaposing the funky sounds of J. Dilla and Georgia Anne Muldrow with Move D's deep house and a bevvy of selections from their own label, all without sacrificing the groove.

01 Deniz Kurtel "Won't Do (Edit)"
02 Georgia Ann Muldrow "Wrong Way" (Stones Throw)
03 J. Dilla "Bye" (Stones Throw)
04 Piniflow "Body Motion (Wolf + Lamb)
05 Mr. Flash "Domino" (Ed Banger)
06 Michael J. Collins "You Washed Away My Faith (Gadi Mizrahi Remix)" (Wolf + Lamb)
07 Nicolas Jaar "Come And Get It (Edit)" (W+L Black)
08 Zev "Don't Break It" (Wolf + Lamb)
09 Jimmy Edgar "Seven Mile (Soul Clap & Sergio Santos Beantown Edit)" (No. 19)
10 Tornado Wallace "Paddlin'" (Delusions Of Grandeur)
11 Greg Paulus "Slide Away (Zev's Endless Summer Remix)" (Wolf + Lamb)
12 Move D "Between Us" (Shanti)
13 Nightmares On Wax "You Wish" (Warp)

Always thought W+L were uber-overrated, glad to see I'm not the only one...

Have listened 5 times all the way through. Thats says something. Mixing isn't too classy but who cares you can make flawless mixes on computers these days. Its good to hear it simple.

i want to like it, but its actually a really boring mix (if you could call the weak cuts mixes) ...not what I'd expect from xlr8r

wolf+lamb uber-overrated ? You probably never experienced a w+l party or just don't get that they're just bringing fun and some freshness back into house.

Liteworks: actually I HAVE "experienced" a W+L party (in a warehouse, no less) & it was way better than this dreary mix... They're over-rated, so what? And if you think playing tracks that sound like they were produced 10+ years ago is bringing "freshness back into house" then, er, you probably need to cut down on the MDMA, mate...

I've never heard of these guys before, but i must say I do find the mix a little weak by the normal XLR8R podcast standards. Its a little too "dinner house" for my tastes.

The edits are fine for what they are but the cuts/mixes seem a bit lazy.

I imagine they're probably a whole lot more fun live.

Just as boring as they always were.... not really surprising, they ARE over-rated. their parties are always a good time, but let's separate that from the quality of this mix. i wish i had that hour of my life back...

Baah... more of the same s*ht from them. (not verified) Wrote

A couple of no-talent hacks. If euro-trance was the 'super hip sound' that is what they would be putting out. 3 years ago they were all minimal all the time. Hated on *everything* else. Times have changed (and what the public wants to buy) and so has their sound. Nothing original here *at all*. Just a couple of guys, with a lot of money, a lot of money, and free time, that know all 'the right people' to get into XLR8R. Same old sh*t in the NYC music scene. It never really changes.

Evidently the "anonymous" are a bit partial. Where is your "fresh" tracklist posted, mixed well nonetheless. Present me a mix of better quality with the given tracks. I would say, my friends, you are lost in time. Fresh mix! Can't wait for your next Detroit soiree;. Wish I had made it to Sprfrq. 110 heat index and 2 stops from the L, couldn't push through. I'm getting old...

their parties are, quite, lame.. compared to the intimate feel they had 3 years ago, when seth troxler was a nobody and... sober. just a big drugged out fest without any ears on the "music". dont buy the hype

Act like you know. I actually REALLY like what one of the commenter described as a "weak" cuts. The level of hate on this comment board seems a little bit suspect.

how do you judge a mix and say what is boring and what is a well-put together mix? I'm confused how a listener could judge a mix based on his personal preferences
