N-Type Rinse: 09

On this uneven mix, N-Type serves up a snapshot of dubstep's trajectory from masturbatory bassline wobbling into sexier sonic realms that might actually compel bodies to swing together on the dancefloor. The winning universal thread here is roots funk, highlighted by two LD remixes, Mungo's Hi-Fi's "International Roots," and John & Jehn's "Looking For You," along with his fine original production, "King of Kong." Stiffer but still danceable stuff comes from the Others' "Dot 2 Dot," Distance's "Twilight," and Kromestar & Jay 5ive's "Bass 96." But just when it starts to get freaky, funky, and fun during the soul-stirring "Burning Up/Take You Back (Tease)" by Skream/Benny Page, N-Type pulls the plug and shuts down the gear a bit too soon.
