MEG Montreal 2013

Five Minutes with Shlohmo at MEG Montreal 2013

Last weekend, XLR8R went north of the border to check out a few days of MEG Montreal—for those that missed it, our complete festival review is here—and while there, we convinced a few of our favorite artists to sit down for a quick chat. One of them was Shlohmo (a.k.a. Henry Laufer), who headlined Thursday night's festivities at Club Soda. (Technically, the event was part of Osheaga MEG Pro, a collaboration between MEG and the Osheaga festival, which was also happening last weekend in Montreal.) Although we only had to chance to talk for a few minutes, Machinedrum was happy to address a range of topics, including his thoughts on Montreal, his passion for collaboration, his plans to leave his current home in Berlin, and how he thinks the EDM boom is actually helping everyone. … Read more »

Now that the calendar has flipped to August, the end of summer is officially in view, but that hasn't slowed the festival season one bit. Last weekend, XLR8R was invited to check out the final few days of MEG Montreal, an eclectic happening that had somehow previously eluded our radar, despite the fact that 2013 marked the 15th year of the festival's existence. We weren't sure exactly what we'd find when we crossed the Canadian border and dove into the MEG festivities, but after three nights of partying in Montreal, we can now say that the festival offered up a number of surprises, six of which we've cataloged below. … Read more »
