XLR8R x Beatport: Deadboy

Over the past few months, XLR8R has been curating a special set of charts for Beatport. The final offering of 2010 comes from none other than Deadboy, the London-based Numbers stalwart. The producer actually kept things relatively quiet this year, releasing only the Here EP and a 12" of Julio Bashmore remixes of his now-classic "Heartbreaker" single. Even with his lower profile, we remain partial to Deadboy's uncanny ability to combine garage, bassline, house, and other sounds in fresh ways. His chart—which is not ranked in any particular order—is similarly varied, somehow finding room for Kate Bush, Basic Channel, DJ Rashad, Vybz Kartel, and other diverse selections. We're certainly not complaining. … Read more »

XLR8R x Beatport: Mosca

Over the past few months, XLR8R has been curating a special set of charts for Beatport. London's Mosca is an artist we're especially excited to have participate, as the genre-hopping producer has followed up his breakout 2010 with an even stronger 2011, dropping the stellar "You Done Me Wrong" b/w "Bax" single on Numbers, the techno-leaning Wavey EP on 3024, and a series of quality remixes along the way. While a couple of those productions are included on this chart he's assembled, Mosca devotes most of his 10 selections to the diverse sounds he's known for throwing down every time he climbs into the DJ booth. … Read more »

XLR8R x Beatport: Hackman

Over the past few months, XLR8R has been curating a special set of charts for Beatport. UK producer Hackman has been making regular appearances on our site over the past two-plus years, thanks largely to his unique, drum-heavy take on funky-influenced house sounds. He can also be counted on to drop a steady stream of new releases, the most recent of which is the "Agree to Disagree" b/w "Sunburst" single on PTN, a precursor to his forthcoming debut full-length, As Above, So Below. Before the album drops early next year, Hackman has put together this list of 10 of his current favorite tunes, a sampling that includes dancefloor gems from several of his UK contemporaries. … Read more »

XLR8R x Beatport: Sepalcure

Over the past few months, XLR8R has been curating a special set of charts for Beatport. At the moment, few electronic-music outfits are flying quite as high as Sepalcure, the Brooklyn-based duo of Praveen Sharma and Travis Stewart which recently dropped its self-titled debut full-length to heaps of acclaim. The pair's emotive and melodic take on bass music has set Sepalcure apart from the rest of the crowd, so, in hopes of figuring out some of the elements that make up the duo's unique aural formula, we invited the two producers to put together a list of 10 of their favorite jams of the moment. … Read more »

XLR8R x Beatport: Girl Unit

Over the past few months, XLR8R has been curating a special set of charts for Beatport. London's Girl Unit is a key member of the Night Slugs family, and also the artist responsible for the label's biggest tune, the anthemic "Wut." While 2011 has been a relatively quiet year for the R&B- and hip-hop-indebted producer, with only a handful of new remixes seeing the light of day, anticipation remains high for his next musical salvo. Before it arrives, we asked him to put together a chart listing some of his favorite tunes of the moment. … Read more »

XLR8R x Beatport: Terror Danjah

Over the past few months, XLR8R has been curating a special set of charts for Beatport. This one comes from grime veteran Terror Danjah, the London-based producer who continues to turn out inventive, low-end-heavy jams no matter how many times the music world declares that the genre is "dead" or "back." … Read more »

XLR8R x Beatport: Canblaster

Over the past few months, XLR8R has been curating a special set of charts for Beatport. The latest edition comes from youthful French beatmaker Canblaster, who just completed a term at this year's Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid. More than a year has passed since we tagged him as a Bubblin' artist, and his hyperactive, genre-melding sounds continue to make waves while he pulls from across the electronic-music spectrum for inspiration. Given his schizophrenic ways, it comes as little surprise that his Beatport chart offers a variety of sounds, including grime, techno, bass music, and, of course, some tunes from his Club Cheval affiliates. … Read more »
