First, Trago will issue his Hidden Heart of Gold 12" on March 9. A two-track affair, the single is set to be led by its 12-plus-minute title track (streaming below), which will also be accompanied by an "ambient mix" of the sprawling production on its b-side.

The following month, Trago's Voyage Direct label will issue First Mission, a double-disc compilation that will collect new productions as well as material from the label's existing catalog, including artists such as Legowelt (as House of Jezebel), Carl Craig (on remix duties), Awanto 3, Maxi Mill, and—of course—Trago himself amongst its 22 tracks. The compilation's April 27 release will also coincide with a First Mission tour which will find many of the record's contributors coming together for a number of shows around Europe. Preview Black Jazz Consortium's Upcoming RECODED EP http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/preview-black-jazz-consortiums-upcoming-recoded-ep/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/preview-black-jazz-consortiums-upcoming-recoded-ep/#comments Fri, 27 Feb 2015 18:08:22 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87354 Longstanding NYC producer/DJ and head of the Soul People Music imprint, Black Jazz Consortium (a.k.a. Fred P) will soon release the first volume of his RECODED EP series, which will focus on "outtakes, alternate versions, and embellishments" of tracks from his Codes and Metaphors LP. Released in 2013, the Codes and Metaphors album began as a three-part EP series before eventually being compiled into a full-length effort; it appears the artist's RECODED series may be on a similar path, with Part 1 set to drop soon, to be followed by a number of additional volumes, though Black Jazz Consortium is yet to share the exact details of those.

In the meantime, the respected East Coast selector—and former XLR8R podcast contributor—has shared a preview of RECODED's first installment; featuring four hypnotically soulful house constructions, the EP can be previewed below. At this point, no exact release date has been set for the record, but it is expected to land sometime in the coming weeks.

Michał Lewicki "One" http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/michal-lewicki-one/ http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/michal-lewicki-one/#comments Fri, 27 Feb 2015 17:00:12 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87317 Michał Lewicki's upcoming Ton album for Project: Mooncircle is the result of an uncoventional production process. A Polish artist who is said to have "always been searching for new ways to implement mathematics into his music," Lewicki (who also produces under the name Deam) initially began building his LP by making use of a variety of MIDI generators, MIDI delays, polyrhythms, pitch shifters, scales, and more in order to create generative sequences that would supply different results with every pass. From that base, Lewicki edited and arranged the results, adding extra instrumentation as his mathematically rooted pieces began to take shape. "One" is, well, one of the 11 resulting productions which Lewicki has deemed fit for Ton (out on March 3), and—as we suspect the rest of his LP is too—the track is not bogged down by its technically minded beginnings, instead the somewhat somber tune is instilled with the kind of unpredictable movement that gently begs for the listener's attention, keeping us leaning ever closer in to see if there are in fact any patterns we can actually wrap our heads around.

Barnt Announces Upcoming Remix 12"; Preview It Now http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/barnt-announces-upcoming-remix-12-preview-it-now/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/barnt-announces-upcoming-remix-12-preview-it-now/#comments Fri, 27 Feb 2015 16:21:13 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87331 Apparently, Barnt (pictured above) wasn't planning to release any remixes of his 2014 album Magazine 13, a record which we placed in the top 10 of our releases of the year list. It seems, though, that the combined talents of Tale of Us, Recondite, and Jens-Uwe Beyer have been enough to change that, with the Cologne-based Barnt having just announced plans to drop a two-track remix 12" by the name of Magazine 131.

According to Barnt, neither of the two remixes were officially commissioned, rather being the result of the artists taking it on themselves to rework the album track "Cherry Red" for use in their own sets. Both new versions subsequently made it into Barnt's sets too, and eventually prompted this release. Now, the resulting collaborative remix from Tale of Us and Recondite, and Jens-Uwe Beyer's solo retooling of "Cherry Red" can be previewed below before the remix package sees its official release on April 13 via Magazine.

Forrest) is set to land on Ralph Lawson's 2020Vision label late next month with the Manhattan EP. Joining Joss' breathy house production of the same title on the upcoming record will be additional remixes from Christian Nielsen, and the rework featured here from budding UK talent VAM. A more bubbly, melody-strewn affair in its original form, VAM infuses "Manhattan" with plenty of warehouse-ready vibes, as the full-bodied remix focuses on reverberant rhythmic thrusts and dark synthetic textures across its six-minute run. Set to land as part of Forrest's larger Manhattan EP package (artwork above) on March 30, VAM's rework can be grabbed below.

Serving as Russom's debut outing for the label, The Telstar File is said to find the seasoned artist "going for the throat" with a trio of "functional club tracks that teeter on the edge of the deepest psychedelic realm."

Serving as our first taste of the record, the EP's title track certainly fits that description, as it wraps a dark, twisted bassline around crisp hardware-form rhythms, and using its seven-plus minute runtime to gradually tweak its various synth lines out into the "psychedelic realm" alluded to above. Set to drop sometime in March, the complete tracklist for Russom's The Telstar File EP has been included below along with a full stream of the record's title track.

In addition to recently celebrating the radio station's 20th anniversary and continuing to helm the label arm of Rinse, Geeneus has been keeping busy producing and collaborating with Katy B, among other artists. His upcoming single—which marks his first solo release in six years—is said to comprise two tough club cuts: "sparse and rolling" title track "Ele" takes its cues from grime and UK funky, while "Red Velvet" is "denser and more immersive, escalating to a dizzying whirl of harmonies and rave stabs." The record is officially due out on March 30, and kicks off a string of Geeneus releases planned to arrive throughout the year. In the meantime, the record's a-side can be streamed in full below.

Also arriving today is news of XXXY's Last Dance EP, which will see its release via Rinse on March 16. The EP is the first in a planned trio from the UK producer that are said to extend the "tripped-out, wistful style he;s increasingly come to make distinctly his own, with clouds of arpeggiated synth notes and vaporized voice rolling atop pillow-soft, droning bass." The complete tracklist for XXXY's upcoming record can be found below along with a stream of EP cut "Lately."

Having issued his debut LP via Deadelus' Magical Properties label in 2012, the artist's sophomore album is set to arrive via the Atomnation imprint, who also released Portable Sunsets' Rental EP last year. A patiently piano-streaked outing, "Sisters" seems a suitable introduction to the producer's forthcoming effort, which is said to spend equal time exploring pillowy ambient territory as it does trading in the kind of heady, subtly evolving club music on display here. Portable Sunsets' "Sisters" production can be downloaded below, where the complete tracklist for his upcoming full-length effort (which will see its official release on March 17) has also been included.

Entitled Flame Rave, the record is said to extend the "majestic explorations" initiated throughout his recent full-length, Clark, and comprises two alternate versions of tracks found on the album and some fresh material.

"I started making these ravey tunes to play out at gigs, but they gathered a momentum and gradually formed this EP," Clark says . "I came back to it again and again—it seemed to work in clubs but also as a sneaky, immersive headphone listen. I love the feel of an almost overwhelming percussive violence being suddenly flooded with heartache and melody. I find that dynamic exhilarating."

Flame Rave sees an official release in both 12" and digital formats on March 23. Until then, EP cut "Silver Sun" can be heard below, where we've also included a complete tracklist. (via FACT)

Entitled Ours, the four-track record is a vinyl-only affair that includes a remix from Trus'Me and also serves as the inaugural release of the newly launched Spinning Plates imprint. Accompanying the new release is bonus cut "Atom," a initially jittery production that gradually gathers up a formidable collection of static-laden textures that twist and turn amongst the track's fast-evolving synth tones and bed of subtly morphing keys. Will & Held's "Atom" production can be grabbed below where a preview stream of the pair's new Ours EP can also be found.

In 2013, Darren Cunningham's (a.k.a. Actress) Werkdiscs imprint released Hauff's first original music, the Action Reactio EP; since then, the Golden Pudel resident has kept remarkably busy with solo singles, her collaborative Black Sites project with F#x, and Peter Weiss's Hypnobeat show. Gordon "Bleu Merle" http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/gordon-bleu-merle/ http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/gordon-bleu-merle/#comments Wed, 25 Feb 2015 17:00:46 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87160 Earlier this week, the Infiné label dropped the Bleu Merle EP, a four-track collection of electronic constructions from French producer Gordon. Serving as the artist's debut release for the label—though he is said to have been involved with the inner workings of Infiné since its beginning—the record is led off by its title track, a dense production which has been offered here for free download. Spanning seven minutes, "Bleu Merle" endlessly lurches forward, liberally piling thick layers of buzzing synths, wobbly low-end, and refracted ambient textures to its slightly off-kilter stomp throughout the course of the track's elongated run.

Premiere: Hear Seven Davis Jr. Remix Mr. G http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/premiere-hear-seven-davis-jr-remix-mr-g/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/premiere-hear-seven-davis-jr-remix-mr-g/#comments Wed, 25 Feb 2015 16:30:21 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87153 Set to close out the forthcoming Resonate EP from longstanding London house head Mr. G, a new remix from rising Los Angeles-based producer/vocalist Seven Davis Jr. is now available to stream in full. As is his speciality, Davis Jr.'s rework laces its stripped rhythms with raw flashes of funk and soul. Aside from making use of the original tune's funk-referencing vocal samples, the remix also piles a number of organ stabs and sliding slabs of molten bass atop its sunken skip; the resulting productions comes equipped with the kind of potent groove we've come to expect from Davis Jr.'s efforts.

Set to appear alongside three original Mr. G productions when the veteran producer's vinyl-only Resonate EP lands via Bristol's Just Jack label on March 7, Seven Davis Jr.'s rework of "TT Rum Bar" is streaming in its entirety below.

Now, Braxton has finally shared details of a follow-up, HIVE1, which will see the artist transition from longtime label home Warp to the Nonesuch imprint. To celebrate the announcement, Braxton has shared the LP's closing cut, "Scout1", a long-form composition that adopts ancient rhythms on futuristic hardware. Leading up to the LP, Braxton will also be playing a three-day "HIVE Residency" at Knoxville's Museum of Art on March 27, 28, and 29. Nonesuch will release HIVE1 on May 12; until then, "Scout1" can be found below, along with the upcoming record's full tracklist.

Zenker Brothers Immersion http://www.xlr8r.com/reviews/2015/02/zenker-brothers-immersion/ http://www.xlr8r.com/reviews/2015/02/zenker-brothers-immersion/#comments Wed, 25 Feb 2015 15:00:10 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86993 Although they had been consistent producers on their own for years, when Munich’s Zenker Brothers (a.k.a. Marco and Dario Zenker) teamed up in 2011, their sound coalesced into something special. The four years since have seen the Ilian Tape bosses release just as many EPs, with each one making its mark on the modern techno landscape. Their sound is playful, bouncy, and boisterous, and those qualities help make their debut full-length, Immersion, a dauntless techno album.

Immersion's foggy stoner techno trades off dancefloor experiences, and does so in a dynamic and cohesive way. Most tracks are powered by thrumming kick drums, but the Zenkers can also move effortlessly from oppressive jungle atmospheres to E-fueled rave highs with a sense of journey. And along the way, they avoid monochrome hues by adding the warm rush of a smeared synth, pensive and celestial chords, or the distorted glow of an apocalyptic laser.

Atmosphere is king in the Zenker Brothers’ world. Even sparse, beatless tracks like “Erbquake” and “Outark” envelope the listener with their gurgling analog landscapes. The broken techno of “Ebbman” and “High Club”'s rubbery churn are intense and all-consuming; despite its reserved tempo, “Innef Runs” is an undulating roller with thunderous power; and “TSV WB” sounds like early, strobe-lit drum & bass. So it’s fair to say the aptly titled Immersion is a heady, heavy album that never lets listeners come up from the smoke and bass to catch their breath.

Pulled from Scientific Dreamz of U's side of the split affair is "Sacred Fractal Geometry," a spacious endeavor that hovers just below 110 BPM, unrolling a steady stream of celestial chords and cosmic synth streaks across its languid seven-minute run. One of five original Scientific Dreamz of U productions intended to "entreat you to relax [and] listen with an alpha-wave mindstate" alongside Junior Loves' six astral contributions to The Dreamcode, "Sacred Fractal Geometry" can be downloaded below before 1080p officially releases the UK artists' split album in both cassette and digital form on March 10.
