Beginning with a series of rich piano chords and delicately stretched vocal samples, "Cold in the B" builds into a bass-fueled hybrid, one drenched in a multitude of machine-made chords, striped with detailed percussion, and—eventually—boosted from the bottom by a deep, resonant bassline. One of seven tracks set to appear on The Meaning (which includes a remix from fellow NYC artist Photay), Rights' "Cold in the B" can be downloaded below; Braille's and Seafloor's collaborative EP is out today via the Montreal-based Infinite Machine label.

Kompakt Announces Pop Ambient LP Series, Details First Record from Leandro Fresco http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/kompakt-announces-pop-ambient-lp-series-details-first-record-from-leandro-fresco/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/kompakt-announces-pop-ambient-lp-series-details-first-record-from-leandro-fresco/#comments Mon, 23 Feb 2015 19:53:15 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87054 Launched in 2001, Kompakt's annual Pop Ambient compilations have showcased a wide range of beatless compositions over the years, focusing on experimental field recordings, lush synth pop, and meandering new-age pieces all with a slight eye towards the pop end of the spectrum (and hand-picked by Kompakt co-founder Wolfgang Voigt). In recent years, the amount of submissions for the collections have been "overflowing" according to the label, who has in turn decided to launch a Pop Ambient LP series featuring music from artists whose work fits within the cannon of the long-running compilation series' unique take on ambient composition.

Launching the album series' run will be the El Reino Invisible LP, a 10-track record from Buenos Aires-bred artist Leandro Fresco. Fresco first appeared on Kompakt in 2002 with the Amor International 12", which followed behind outings for German label Traum Schallplatten and the short-lived Argentinian imprint Fragil Discos. Said to have furthered mastered his craft since first appearing on the label, Fresco's El Reino Invisible LP is described as "an enticing and sophisticated narrative wrapped in gorgeous synth explorations—a slowly evolving wall of synthesized textures that certainly knows its way around pop-infused catchiness, but also operates as a collection of profoundly personal mnemonics."

Fresco's forthcoming album will launch Kompakt's Pop Ambient LP series when it lands on March 2; the record's artwork has been included above, while its tracklist can be found below. Furthermore, the El Reino Invisible LP is currently available to preview here.

Now, a piece of Actress' audio contribution to the effort, "NMMG," can be streamed in full.

Following its broadcast of the full hour-long sound piece composed by Actress for Half/Living, NTS Radio has uploaded one seven-minute component of the installation's audio portion to its SoundCloud. A meandering techno composition streaked with ghostly textures and retuned samples, Actress' "NMMG" production can be heard in its entirety below.

Consisting of Frankfurt artists Benedikt Frey (whose has released with labels such as Mule Musiq and Live at Robert Johnson in the past) and Nadia D'Alo, INIT's first release will land in the form of a five-track untitled EP which will feature two original works from the pair alongside remixes from C.P.I., Willie Burns, and Cliff Lothar.

Said to find Frey taking his "cosmic, plodding, and house-related analogue experimentations... and penchant for moody kraut-influenced psychedelia and atmospheric synth explorations" into new territory with the help of D'Alo, INIT's debut EP can be previewed below before it sees its official release on March 9 via the steadily growing Hivern Discs outpost.

Built around Sinerise's skipping song of the same title, the record is also set to feature remixes from Brooklyn's Archie Pelago trio as well as former XLR8R podcast contributor Submerse, whose take on "Calling' is offered here. As we've come to expect from the prolific beatmaker, Submerse has delivered another high quality rework, transforming Sinerise's original into an effortless head-nodder with plenty of rich Rhodes chords, twinkling arpeggios, and swung percussion pieces to go around. Submerse's new remix can be grabbed below where a full stream of the forthcoming Calling EP can also be heard ahead of the record's official release (in both vinyl and digital formats) tomorrow.

(a.k.a. Ethiopian Records), a producer based in the Ethiopian city of Addis Ababa. Now, the label has repackaged E.R.'s Qen Sew EP for an upcoming vinyl release, which will include a new remix of the record's title track from the pairing of Future Times co-head Maxmillion Dunbar and Ari Goldman together under their Beautiful Swimmers moniker.

In its original form, "Qen Sew" is a ghostly track which comes streaked with reverberant chords and snippets of traditional Ethiopian music. Now placed in the hands of the Beautiful Swimmers pair, E.R.'s production is reshaped into an altogether more buoyant affair; wrapped in aqua-hued chords, the rework lurches forward with an off-kilter stomp, adding various pieces of stumbling percussion to the remix's rhythmic base as long-winded pads and warm synth chords streak across its six-minute run.

Officially set to land on the vinyl edition of E.R.'s Qen Sew EP tomorrow, Beautiful Swimmers' new remix can be streamed in full below, where the upcoming record's complete tracklist has also been included.

Since then, Kourtesis has continued to build up her chops as a solo producer, and is now set to issue her official debut EP, This Is It, later this month. Pulled from the record is "Fresia," a melody swept affair that doesn't land too far down the road from her collaboration with Gold Panda, making use of bouncing bells, sweeping synth lines, and an efficient rhythmic base across its four-minute run; there are even some retuned vocals and light atmospheric touches thrown in for good measure as well. Set to see an official release—alongside the rest of the forthcoming This Is It EP—via the Duchess Box label on February 28, Kourtesis' "Fresia" production can be downloaded below.

In Aguayo's own words, the El Rudo Del House series is based on an "imaginary creature who speaks to you with a pitched-down voice and produces heavy house rhythms that are engineered to directly trigger the movement of different body parts." The resulting title track sounds precisely as one would hope the product of the above-described approach would, and can be streamed in full using the player below ahead of the release of the series' first 12" (appropriately titled Round One) on March 16 via Aguayo's own Cómeme label.

Now with the March 3 release date drawing near, Hugo has shared the second of three self-directed videos for tracks from the album. The video for Palmbomen II's "Carina Sayles" introduces the titular character and comes beautifully awash with '80s-film existentialism and humid West Coast atmosphere. In the words of the press sheet, "'Carina Sayles' answers the question many siblings have asked before: 'What is that music, anyway?'."

As Palmbomen II, Hugo Kai will head out on the road for five US dates in early March to support the release, details of which can also be found below alongside the artist's new video.

The collaborative releases will find Brian D'Souza (a.k.a. Auntie Flo) and Esa recording in collaboration with local musicians from various parts of the world in which the pair have recently found themselves. The first installment of the series—the four-track Highlife World Series: Cuba EP—is said to have been recorded in old town Havana with local musicians the pair met while in the country to perform at the inaugural Havana World Music Festival in February 2014.

The second and third releases under the Highlife World Series banner will be entitled Kenya and Uganda, and will apparently also see the light of day in the very near future. According to the Highlife label, "all proceeds from each release will be sent back to the respective countries in order to fund further musical production costs in years to come. We will also be seeking various ways to distribute the music in each country so the music is freely available for the musicians to use at home." Previews of all four tracks from the Cuba installment of the series can be streamed via the player below ahead of the EP's official release on March 9.

Now, having shared the record's lead track, "You Can Shine," back in January, XLR8R has gotten its hands on "Personality Track," the forthcoming EP's b-side cut.

"'Personality Track' was born out of the feeling I had from listening to my favorite Terence Dixon records," Butler explains in an email "The quirky angular marimba line in particular was very inspired by some of his melodies. [I think] Dixon is a good representative of personality in techno, something missing in a lot of dance music today," he continues. "I also love how early techno and industrial music had playful elements often, so I incorporated some of the techniques here (i.e. the found-sound and spoken-word samples and the super plucked-almost-slapped bassline)."

Butler's "Personality Track" production can be streamed in full below before the artist's debut solo EP lands in vinyl form on February 23 (and in digital form in March).

In fact one of four tracks included on the budding talent's new Deva EP, "Fast" again finds Duerma crafting a jittery beat of sorts, which this time comes streaked with a slew of chopped chords, miniature rhythmic glitches, fast-paced melodies, and even a good deal of ambient bird chirps. Serving as a preview of the upcoming effort, the artist born Fredrik Nyberg has passed along "Disconnected," a floor-focused production which is set to appear in the middle of the three-track record. A rolling house tune at its base, "Disconnected" makes use of rich, pulsing chords and echoing vocal samples across its five-minute run, maintaing a swift and confident stride throughout. A gooey, funk-streaked production, "Proud" sees the UK artist continuing to move away from the more club-focused efforts of his past records in order to craft hazy pop constructions; with "Proud" as the latest example, the results continue to be hard to argue with. Lobster Theremin Reveals Upcoming EP from Route 8; Preview It Now http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/lobster-theremin-reveals-upcoming-ep-from-route-8-preview-it-now/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/lobster-theremin-reveals-upcoming-ep-from-route-8-preview-it-now/#comments Thu, 19 Feb 2015 18:09:37 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86883 After releasing his Dry Thoughts EP for the label early in 2014, Budapest-based producer Route 8 is set to return to the Lobster Theremin fold with the four-track This Raw Feeling EP. Slated to arrive later this month, the "white label" record is said to contain more of the "emotive dreamscape house and heady techno" that the artist's past releases for the likes of Lobster Theremin, Nous, and Farbwechsel have focused on, while also seeing Route 8 "adding crystalline electro and tool-room clattering house to his emotionally charged sound palette."

To help give us a better idea of what exactly that all will sound like, Lobster Theremin has shared a preview stream of This Raw Feeling EP's four efforts, which can be heard below before Route 8's new record officially lands on February 26.

1. The Sunrise in Her Eyes
2. This Raw Feeling
3. It Doesn't Matter Anymore
4. Ash Dub

Stream a New Single from Bok Bok and Sweyn Jupiter http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/stream-a-new-single-from-bok-bok-and-sweyn-jupiter/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/stream-a-new-single-from-bok-bok-and-sweyn-jupiter/#comments Thu, 19 Feb 2015 16:55:23 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86875 Bok Bok (pictured above) has teamed up with Night Slugs newcomer Sweyn Jupiter on a new single, "Papaya Lipgloss." The double a-side single is billed as "a song about young love" and shows a somewhat softer side to label co-founder Bok Bok than seen on his 2014 EP, Your Charizmatic Self, with Jupiter's keyboard work helping set the tone. The single's "Club Mix" version is said to borrow from the "sweltering rhythms" of tribal house, while "Papaya Lipgloss—Sour Mix" takes the form of "an opulent bedroom jam, complete with quaking kick drums and purring Moog bassline."

The "Papaya Lipgloss" single is due out in digital and 12" formats on March 17; for now, Bok Bok's and Sweyn Jupiter's "Papaya Lipgloss (Club Mix)" can be streamed in full below.

LTO "Trabajar" http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/lto-trabajar/ http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/lto-trabajar/#comments Thu, 19 Feb 2015 16:52:32 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86835 A member of the Old Apparatus production collective, Bristol artist LTO will soon release a new solo EP, No Pasa Nada, which will serve as the debut outing from the Injazero label. Set to close the record is "Trabajar," an immersive production which makes use of a wide-ranging sonic palette across its four-minute run. Blending various field recordings with bursts of static, industrial percussion hits, layers of strings, and an innumerable collection of other minute sonic elements, it is pleasantly difficult to pinpoint where the acoustic and processed worlds meet in LTO's production. One of four such efforts slated to appear on the forthcoming No Pasa Nada EP in the coming weeks (the record is said to be "out soon"), "Trabajar" can be downloaded below.

HNNY Details Upcoming EP for Pets, Streams "Yogalates" http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/hnny-details-upcoming-ep-for-pets-streams-yogalates/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/hnny-details-upcoming-ep-for-pets-streams-yogalates/#comments Thu, 19 Feb 2015 15:44:04 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86854 Stockholm's Johan Cederberg (a.k.a. HNNY) has shared a stream of "Yogalates" from his forthcoming Carefree EP before the record drops next week. The highly active Swedish producer has released a slew of 10"s and 12"s for  labels like Let's Play House, Local Talk, and Puss in recent years (not to mention a split on Studio Barnhus), but this latest effort marks his first appearance on Pets, the label headed by Catz 'n Dogz. Each of the EP's five tracks are said to fall under the umbrella of off-kilter, colorful house, with closing cut "Yogalates"—available to hear below in an XLR8R premiere—featuring "big xylophones, joyous piano chords, rubbery kicks, and a generally disarming sense of playfulness."

Carefree arrives on February 23, and the EP's complete tracklist has also been posted below.

01 Happy Happy House House
02 Brasilian Sound
03 Fresh Laundry
04 Frukstund
05 Yogalates

Stream I.A. Bericochea's New EP for Idle Hands http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/stream-i-a-bericocheas-new-ep-for-idle-hands/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/stream-i-a-bericocheas-new-ep-for-idle-hands/#comments Thu, 19 Feb 2015 15:30:02 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86356 I.A. Bericochea will likely be a new name to most XLR8R readers; the Spanish producer has a handful of releases in his corner (including an LP for Richie Hawtin's Minus label), but the artist has remained largely silent on the release front in recent years. Now, I.A. Bericochea has stepped out of the shadows with the Wake Up EP, a four-track effort which serves as his debut for Bristol's Idle Hands imprint.

On Wake Up, Bericochea's productions are hard to place. Often they come equipped with the detailed textures and finite percussion common to dub techno, but there is also an unmistakably live element at play here as well, mostly heard in the rounded basslines that sit at the bottom of Bericochea's compositions beneath interwoven layers of percolating—at times even watery—percussion. Presenting four fearlessly leftfield takes on dance music, the Wake Up EP can be streamed in full below; the record sees its official release this week via Idle Hands.

All We Are "Keep Me Alive (Lxury Remix)" http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/all-we-are-keep-me-alive-lxury-remix/ http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/all-we-are-keep-me-alive-lxury-remix/#comments Thu, 19 Feb 2015 14:00:08 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86839 Following behind the release of its self-titled debut LP via the Domino imprint earlier this month, the All We Are trio have gathered a number of remixes to accompany its recent full-length effort, including this one from London-based producer Lxury. A guitar-laden pop affair in its original form, Lxury transforms "Keep Me Alive" into a rolling club track, stretching the tune's elements almost beyond recognition while lacing the rework's sharp, skipping rhythms with a swath of swellings chords and wobbly melodies.
