In Aguayo's own words, the El Rudo Del House series is based on an "imaginary creature who speaks to you with a pitched-down voice and produces heavy house rhythms that are engineered to directly trigger the movement of different body parts." The resulting title track sounds precisely as one would hope the product of the above-described approach would, and can be streamed in full using the player below ahead of the release of the series' first 12" (appropriately titled Round One) on March 16 via Aguayo's own Cómeme label.

Now with the March 3 release date drawing near, Hugo has shared the second of three self-directed videos for tracks from the album. The video for Palmbomen II's "Carina Sayles" introduces the titular character and comes beautifully awash with '80s-film existentialism and humid West Coast atmosphere. In the words of the press sheet, "'Carina Sayles' answers the question many siblings have asked before: 'What is that music, anyway?'."

As Palmbomen II, Hugo Kai will head out on the road for five US dates in early March to support the release, details of which can also be found below alongside the artist's new video.

March 6 San Francisco CA - Mezzanine*
March 7 Los Angeles, CA - Far Away*
March 12 Brooklyn, NY - Good Room

The collaborative releases will find Brian D'Souza (a.k.a. Auntie Flo) and Esa recording in collaboration with local musicians from various parts of the world in which the pair have recently found themselves. The first installment of the series—the four-track Highlife World Series: Cuba EP—is said to have been recorded in old town Havana with local musicians the pair met while in the country to perform at the inaugural Havana World Music Festival in February 2014.

The second and third releases under the Highlife World Series banner will be entitled Kenya and Uganda, and will apparently also see the light of day in the very near future. According to the Highlife label, "all proceeds from each release will be sent back to the respective countries in order to fund further musical production costs in years to come. We will also be seeking various ways to distribute the music in each country so the music is freely available for the musicians to use at home." Previews of all four tracks from the Cuba installment of the series can be streamed via the player below ahead of the EP's official release on March 9.

Premiere: Stream a New Track from Andy Butler's Debut Solo EP http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/premiere-stream-a-new-track-from-andy-butlers-debut-solo-ep/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/premiere-stream-a-new-track-from-andy-butlers-debut-solo-ep/#comments Fri, 20 Feb 2015 16:05:21 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86906 After serving as the force behind the Hercules & Love Affair outfit, Andy Butler has decided to step out on his own for his first solo effort, which will land via his own mr.intl in vinyl form later this month (with a digital release to follow in March). Now, having shared the record's lead track, "You Can Shine," back in January, XLR8R has gotten its hands on "Personality Track," the forthcoming EP's b-side cut.

"'Personality Track' was born out of the feeling I had from listening to my favorite Terence Dixon records," Butler explains in an email "The quirky angular marimba line in particular was very inspired by some of his melodies. [I think] Dixon is a good representative of personality in techno, something missing in a lot of dance music today," he continues. "I also love how early techno and industrial music had playful elements often, so I incorporated some of the techniques here (i.e. the found-sound and spoken-word samples and the super plucked-almost-slapped bassline)."

Butler's "Personality Track" production can be streamed in full below before the artist's debut solo EP lands in vinyl form on February 23 (and in digital form in March).

In fact one of four tracks included on the budding talent's new Deva EP, "Fast" again finds Duerma crafting a jittery beat of sorts, which this time comes streaked with a slew of chopped chords, miniature rhythmic glitches, fast-paced melodies, and even a good deal of ambient bird chirps. Duerma's "Fast" production can be downloaded below while the Illinois artist's full Deva EP can be picked up as a name-your-price download here.

Serving as a preview of the upcoming effort, the artist born Fredrik Nyberg has passed along "Disconnected," a floor-focused production which is set to appear in the middle of the three-track record. A rolling house tune at its base, "Disconnected" makes use of rich, pulsing chords and echoing vocal samples across its five-minute run, maintaing a swift and confident stride throughout. NIBC's "Disconnected" can be downloaded below before the seasoned producer's full Vega EP lands in digital form on February 23.

A gooey, funk-streaked production, "Proud" sees the UK artist continuing to move away from the more club-focused efforts of his past records in order to craft hazy pop constructions; with "Proud" as the latest example, the results continue to be hard to argue with. Jam City's latest single can be streamed below before his full Dream a Garden LP sees its official release via Night Slugs on March 23.

Slated to arrive later this month, the "white label" record is said to contain more of the "emotive dreamscape house and heady techno" that the artist's past releases for the likes of Lobster Theremin, Nous, and Farbwechsel have focused on, while also seeing Route 8 "adding crystalline electro and tool-room clattering house to his emotionally charged sound palette."

To help give us a better idea of what exactly that all will sound like, Lobster Theremin has shared a preview stream of This Raw Feeling EP's four efforts, which can be heard below before Route 8's new record officially lands on February 26.

The double a-side single is billed as "a song about young love" and shows a somewhat softer side to label co-founder Bok Bok than seen on his 2014 EP, Your Charizmatic Self, with Jupiter's keyboard work helping set the tone. The single's "Club Mix" version is said to borrow from the "sweltering rhythms" of tribal house, while "Papaya Lipgloss—Sour Mix" takes the form of "an opulent bedroom jam, complete with quaking kick drums and purring Moog bassline."

The "Papaya Lipgloss" single is due out in digital and 12" formats on March 17; for now, Bok Bok's and Sweyn Jupiter's "Papaya Lipgloss (Club Mix)" can be streamed in full below.

LTO "Trabajar" http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/lto-trabajar/ http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/lto-trabajar/#comments Thu, 19 Feb 2015 16:52:32 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86835 A member of the Old Apparatus production collective, Bristol artist LTO will soon release a new solo EP, No Pasa Nada, which will serve as the debut outing from the Injazero label. Set to close the record is "Trabajar," an immersive production which makes use of a wide-ranging sonic palette across its four-minute run. Blending various field recordings with bursts of static, industrial percussion hits, layers of strings, and an innumerable collection of other minute sonic elements, it is pleasantly difficult to pinpoint where the acoustic and processed worlds meet in LTO's production. One of four such efforts slated to appear on the forthcoming No Pasa Nada EP in the coming weeks (the record is said to be "out soon"), "Trabajar" can be downloaded below.

HNNY) has shared a stream of "Yogalates" from his forthcoming Carefree EP before the record drops next week. The highly active Swedish producer has released a slew of 10"s and 12"s for  labels like Let's Play House, Local Talk, and Puss in recent years (not to mention a split on Studio Barnhus), but this latest effort marks his first appearance on Pets, the label headed by Catz 'n Dogz. Each of the EP's five tracks are said to fall under the umbrella of off-kilter, colorful house, with closing cut "Yogalates"—available to hear below in an XLR8R premiere—featuring "big xylophones, joyous piano chords, rubbery kicks, and a generally disarming sense of playfulness."

Carefree arrives on February 23, and the EP's complete tracklist has also been posted below.

Bericochea's New EP for Idle Hands http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/stream-i-a-bericocheas-new-ep-for-idle-hands/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/stream-i-a-bericocheas-new-ep-for-idle-hands/#comments Thu, 19 Feb 2015 15:30:02 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86356 I.A. Bericochea will likely be a new name to most XLR8R readers; the Spanish producer has a handful of releases in his corner (including an LP for Richie Hawtin's Minus label), but the artist has remained largely silent on the release front in recent years. Now, I.A. Bericochea has stepped out of the shadows with the Wake Up EP, a four-track effort which serves as his debut for Bristol's Idle Hands imprint.

On Wake Up, Bericochea's productions are hard to place. Often they come equipped with the detailed textures and finite percussion common to dub techno, but there is also an unmistakably live element at play here as well, mostly heard in the rounded basslines that sit at the bottom of Bericochea's compositions beneath interwoven layers of percolating—at times even watery—percussion. Presenting four fearlessly leftfield takes on dance music, the Wake Up EP can be streamed in full below; the record sees its official release this week via Idle Hands.

A guitar-laden pop affair in its original form, Lxury transforms "Keep Me Alive" into a rolling club track, stretching the tune's elements almost beyond recognition while lacing the rework's sharp, skipping rhythms with a swath of swellings chords and wobbly melodies.

The album follows from previous 12" outings on Leisure System, Civil Music, and Infinite Machine, and is said to comprise 10 "groovy bass tracks that are mellow and lush, yet still rhythmically wild." In keeping with its title, each track on the LP was reportedly inspired by a different city, including the "dry and shaky techno rattle of Berlin, drunk and lavish house vibes of Moscow, and gaudy and vivid drums of Phuket in Thailand."

Comprising two original "tough club" cuts, title track "Sex Fortress" is said to pit "re-amped hardware against steely live drums and bursts of noisy, twisted vox," while on the flip, "'Photobox' focuses on groove and atmosphere—saturated 606 hits and pulsing dub chords augment a warped, chrome-plated bassline." The EP follows from previous outings on Hotflush, 2nd Drop, and Aery Metals (among other labels), and reportedly sets the tone for upcoming SLO material in 2015—including his debut 12" under his Portrait alias.

Sex Fortress arrives on March 8 in both vinyl and digital formats, and EP clips can be previewed below.

Now, Jenkinson is set to return with his first album since 2012's Ufabulum LP, Damogen Furies. According to Jenkinson, the forthcoming album will explore "the hallucinatory, the nightmarish, and the brutally visceral capacities of electronic music." Furthermore, over the last decade Jenkinson has worked to build his own music creation software, and all of the productions on his latest record are said to have been created in one take (without any edits) using that system.

Along with the LP announcement, Jenkinson has also shared a free download of brash album cut "Rayc Fire 2," which rides a tyrannical rhythm in erratic patterns. Suicideyear) caught the attention of Software label co-founder Daniel Lopatin (a.k.a. Oneohtrix Point Never) with his full-length mixtape, Japan. Software went on to release Prudhomme's next effort, the Remembrance EP in September of last year, but now the imprint has elected to reissue Suicideyear's Japan on vinyl and CD (the latter will include the Japan mixtape and Remembrance packaged together as a compilation called DREAM 727). To avoid potential issues with uncleared samples, the release includes some subtle changes; according to the label, "tracks like 'Kuuuuush' and 'Scarr' hit harder now, but there is a new sort of angelic sheen to them as well." Both Japan and DREAM 727 will be available on March 10, but until then, album cut "Interest" can be streamed below.

Appearing via the fledgling Low Indigo label, the new record is said to be partially inspired by the artist's "ghostly encounter" on a Vancouver island in 2014, and so the EP's six efforts take on a fittingly ethereal atmosphere. Featured here, EP cut "Don't Tell Me" certainly fits the profile, its airy chords providing the bed for the track's sparse collection of delicate melodies and jittery percussion hits. Kline's "Don't Tell Me" production can be downloaded below, while the Canadian artist's new EP can be streamed in full using the YouTube player also included below, which features an 18-minute video creation from endtask to accompany the entirety of Kline's new record.

Premiere: Listen to Project Pablo's Upcoming LP for 1080p http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/premiere-listen-to-project-pablos-upcoming-lp-for-1080p/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/premiere-listen-to-project-pablos-upcoming-lp-for-1080p/#comments Wed, 18 Feb 2015 16:53:22 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86775 Rising Montreal artist Project Pablo—a producer who we highlighted as part of our Bubblin Up Week feature series last month—will make his first contribution to the ever-growing 1080p label's catalog next week in the form of the I Want to Believe LP. Ahead of the record's release, Project Pablo's forthcoming collection of chunky disco and swinging house hybrids can now be streamed in full on XLR8R.

Serving as Project Pablo's first full-length outing, I Want to Believe is an effortlessly groove-focused affair, its many walking basslines and loose-swung house and disco beats meeting an array of breezy chords and tastefully bright melodies along the way. Initially beginning in a bit more hazy territory with album opener "Sky Lounge," the record quickly starts letting the sun shine through, with cuts like "Follow It Up" and "Movin' Out" dipping into sections of relaxed funk, while—later on—another album highlight, "Always," digs a bit deeper beneath its woozy synth chords and crunchy layers of percussion.

Officially out in cassette and digital form on February 24 via 1080p, Project Pablo's I Want to Believe LP can be streamed in its entirety via the player below.

Titled School Dance, the forthcoming 12" continues in the line of crunchy, funk-influenced house that the young producer has become known for and features artwork (from Sean Linn) which resembles a school notebook doodle. The School Dance EP will inaugurate Daniel's newly launched Watusi High label when it sees its release "soon," though no official street date for the record has been set at this time. Until then, clips from the EP's two tracks can be streamed below. (via Resident Advisor)

Altered Natives Preps New Album http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/altered-natives-preps-new-album/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/altered-natives-preps-new-album/#comments Wed, 18 Feb 2015 16:33:28 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86730 Longstanding London producer Altered Natives (a.k.a. Danny Yorke) has announced he will release his seventh album via his own Eye4Eye label next month. Early listens confirm that In the Place Where Love Once Lived will contain more of the rough, dark, unrefined house music we've come to know and love from Yorke, who in 2011 contributed a stellar mix crammed with his own productions to our podcast series. That mix can still be streamed and downloaded here, while Altered Natives' In the Place Where Love Once Lived LP will see its official release on March 30 via Eye4Eye. In the meantime, the record's artwork and tracklist have been included below.

Vin Sol Off the Chain http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/vin-sol-off-the-chain/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/vin-sol-off-the-chain/#comments Wed, 18 Feb 2015 16:00:29 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86090 It wasn't long ago that Vin Sol was largely an unknown proposition, but he's managed to become a relatively established house producer rather quickly. His first release came in 2012, but it was two outings on Unknown to the Unknown, along with his many efforts for his own Soo Wavey label—which he operates alongside friend and frequent collaborator Matrixxman—that have really nudged the San Francisco producer into the spotlight. By now, it's been established what the self-confessed "record nerd" and long-time DJ is all about, and that is classically informed house with lots of raw texture, a proud analog aesthetic, and serious dancefloor clout.

Though his previous output has included everything from gooey Sade reworks to rueful deep stuff, one gets the impression his debut EP on Clone’s unapologetically floor-facing Jack for Daze offshoot is the one that best sums up his style and most ably showcases his hardware- and MPC-based skills. It might not be wholly new in terms of ideas, yet Off the Chain is so excellently executed that there is no need to dress up the four tracks on it as anything other than what they are: unmistakably tooly cuts designed to make people sweat.

And boy, do they do that, right from the start. The title track is a nerve-twitching amalgam of walloping rubber kicks, ghetto-fried vocal stabs, and percolating bass that adds a sense of size and scale to what is essentially a percussive jack track. At various random points, spinning hi-hats and jostling claps stick out of the mix like stray limbs in a cartoon fight, prodding the listener in the eye and awakening every sense in the process. It's fun and prickly and loveably oafish, while "Shox" is another masterclass in dehumanized house rave. Irresistibly energetic, its a lithe brew of robust 909 sounds that are piled up, chewed around, and spat out with scant regard for proper arrangement.

Vin Sol does this boundless brutalism as well as anyone, but for those seeking a slightly more linear jam, "House Freaks" is the one. The track surges along with subtle traces of Chicago at every turn, from the juke-inspired snares to the twitchy acid squiggles via the intense vocal stabs. And with its matter-of-fact title, ravey, corrugated closer "Trac" confirms what followers of Vin Sol already know about his music: it's high-impact, visceral stuff that comes from his gut and gets whoever is listening right in theirs.

Foba & Matemo "Porcelain" http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/foba-matemo-porcelain/ http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/foba-matemo-porcelain/#comments Wed, 18 Feb 2015 14:00:09 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86781 Having relocated from France to the predominantly French-speaking Canadian music hub that is Montreal in April of last year, Victor Brulé (a.k.a. Foba) and Matthieu Tessier (a.k.a. Matemo) have continued their roles as part of the larger Get Monet production outfit since making their way across the pond. Featured here, "Porcelain" serves as Brulé's and Tessier's first ever collaboration solely as a pair; a club-minded track, "Porcelain" is a simple-but-effective affair, one that draws the listener in with its stream of pulsing chords while a revolving series of percussive tricks and a bouncing sub-bassline seem to ensure that one's feet will keep moving throughout the entirety of the tune's five-plus-minute run.
