Serving as the Bunit label's inaugural release, Transatlantic finds the production pair fusing together drum & bass, Om Unit's familiar "fast/slow" constructions, and a number of other percussive club music strains to result in a darkly fast-paced affair.

With its limited vinyl run appearing sold out in most online stores, Om Unit's and Sam Binga's Transatlantic EP is still available digitally beginning today, and is also available to stream in full below.

Check Out a New Remix from Andy Stott http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/03/check-out-a-new-remix-from-andy-stott/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/03/check-out-a-new-remix-from-andy-stott/#comments Mon, 02 Mar 2015 18:26:58 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87425 Pulled from his recent Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper LP for Domino, Panda Bear's "Boys Latin" track has received a remix treatment from Andy Stott (pictured above). On his rework, Stott completely reshapes "Boys Latin," letting the original production's vocal layers only occasionally peek through, and even then while being wrapped in additional ambient layers. The rest of the Manchester producer's six-minute remix digs deep beneath static-lined textures and retooled bits of industrial percussion, making for something that is altogether darker and much more aggressive than Panda Bear's original. Stott's dark-tinted take on "Boys Latin" can be streamed in full below.

Djinji Brown "Waterfalls in Dub" http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/03/djinji-brown-waterfalls-in-dub/ http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/03/djinji-brown-waterfalls-in-dub/#comments Mon, 02 Mar 2015 17:00:19 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87378 Today, longstanding house selector Osunlade's Yoruba label has dropped Only to Survive the Diaspora, an 11-track compilation featuring new productions from the likes of Drala, Afefe Iku, and Osunlade himself. Included in the collection is "Waterfalls in Dub," a soul-steeped affair from Djinji Brown which rides a sharp procession of hand-played percussion across the entirety of its six-minute run. Fitted atop Brown's stream of hand drums and shakers are waves of Rhodes chords, fluttering strings, bursts of synth bass (as well as a good deal of live bass), and occasionally, some watery field recordings which give the placid club tune its title. Djinji Brown's "Waterfalls in Dub" can be downloaded below, where a 10-minute preview of Yoruba's new compilation is also available to stream.

The EP contains three lush, synth-driven deep house outings, and features vocals from Eva Kruijssen and Denise Frickenschmidt as well as samples reportedly collected from around Janis' family cottage.

Before You Can't See Me sees an official release in both vinyl and digital formats on March 23, clips for all three EP tracks can be heard below.

Crackazat "Eye Light (Sunset)" http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/03/crackazat-eye-light-sunset/ http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/03/crackazat-eye-light-sunset/#comments Mon, 02 Mar 2015 15:05:34 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87373 A consistent home for quality house music (often of the jazzy and disco-infused sort), Sweden's Local Talk imprint will soon add the first full-length artist album to its always catalog in the form of the Crescendo LP from Crackazat. A Bristol-bred producer, Crackazat now calls the Swedish city of Uppsala home, which is where he crafted the 13 tracks which make up his debut LP. A Floating Points-esque highlight from the record, Crackazat has given his "Eye Light" production (which can be heard in its original form here) a slight reshaping, deeming the result the "Sunset" version of the track, likely due to the production's warm organ chords and joyously swung rhythms. Crackazat's "Eye Light (Sunset)" tune can be grabbed for free below ahead of the Crescendo LP's official release later this week, on March 6.

Seven Davis Jr. Wild Hearts EP http://www.xlr8r.com/reviews/2015/03/seven-davis-jr-wild-hearts-ep/ http://www.xlr8r.com/reviews/2015/03/seven-davis-jr-wild-hearts-ep/#comments Mon, 02 Mar 2015 15:00:16 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86991 Seven Davis Jr. has been on a roll ever since debuting in 2013 with One, one of the best vocal house records in recent memory. He's since showcased the breadth of his production chops and the range of his voice with releases on Classic, Apron, and Ten Thousand Yen—exploring the sounds of frenzied funk, jacking house, raw instrumentals, and experimental R&B. For someone with such a comprehensive sound, an album seems like the obvious next step, and UK label Ninja Tune has snapped up the Texas-born, California-based artist for his debut full-length later in the year. Beforehand, they've served up Wild Hearts, a two-tracker that reminds us of the years Davis spent working in more radio-friendly realms before he sunk into the underground.

His ability to write a catchy hook really stands out on "Wildhearts"; it's perfectly suited for credible clubs, but also sounds like a pop hit. The repeated refrain gets lodged deep in your brain—as a proper pop song should—coming through a mire of fuzz like an ill-tuned radio receiver. Underpinned by elastic bass licks and energized with quick, crunchy claps, it's a bulbous jam that oozes funk, which Davis closes with a tender Rhodes solo. It's a feel-good party jam on the surface, but there's real personal pain underneath. Lines like "As I jump back on the horse, I still think of you regardless" add a genuine emotional resonance that elevates "Wild Hearts" above your average DJ tool.

On the flip, the much shorter and to-the-point "Let Somebody Love You" might be meant for the same person mentioned in "Wildhearts," but after a few drinks. Kinetic and angsty, the b-side's distorted synths gurgle constantly below Davis' crisp vocals as he pleads to be taken back by his lover. Candid and full of palpable energy, both tracks feel like living snapshots of Davis' world rather than coldly calculated computer grooves.

The British-Japanese producer has kept the alias quiet in recent years, focusing instead on DJing and producing under her own name and piloting her I/AM/ME imprint. The upcoming LP is described as "eminently dark and—at times—menacing," and "a heady journey steeped in dancefloor tradition... that portrays another side of an artist." Coles' own vocals will feature throughout, alongside Chelou and Argentinian singer Catnapp.

Before Nocturnal Sunshine arrives on May 26 via I/AM/ME, album single "Take Me There" (streaming below) sees a digital release today, with a 12" version that includes bonus cut "Never Too Late" becoming available on Record Store Day on April 18.

First, Trago will issue his Hidden Heart of Gold 12" on March 9. A two-track affair, the single is set to be led by its 12-plus-minute title track (streaming below), which will also be accompanied by an "ambient mix" of the sprawling production on its b-side.

The following month, Trago's Voyage Direct label will issue First Mission, a double-disc compilation that will collect new productions as well as material from the label's existing catalog, including artists such as Legowelt (as House of Jezebel), Carl Craig (on remix duties), Awanto 3, Maxi Mill, and—of course—Trago himself amongst its 22 tracks. The compilation's April 27 release will also coincide with a First Mission tour which will find many of the record's contributors coming together for a number of shows around Europe. The complete details of that upcoming tour and the artwork and tracklist for First Mission have been included below, where a full stream of Trago's forthcoming "Hidden Heart of Gold" single has also been included.

Preview Black Jazz Consortium's Upcoming RECODED EP http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/preview-black-jazz-consortiums-upcoming-recoded-ep/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/preview-black-jazz-consortiums-upcoming-recoded-ep/#comments Fri, 27 Feb 2015 18:08:22 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87354 Longstanding NYC producer/DJ and head of the Soul People Music imprint, Black Jazz Consortium (a.k.a. Fred P) will soon release the first volume of his RECODED EP series, which will focus on "outtakes, alternate versions, and embellishments" of tracks from his Codes and Metaphors LP. Released in 2013, the Codes and Metaphors album began as a three-part EP series before eventually being compiled into a full-length effort; it appears the artist's RECODED series may be on a similar path, with Part 1 set to drop soon, to be followed by a number of additional volumes, though Black Jazz Consortium is yet to share the exact details of those.

In the meantime, the respected East Coast selector—and former XLR8R podcast contributor—has shared a preview of RECODED's first installment; featuring four hypnotically soulful house constructions, the EP can be previewed below. At this point, no exact release date has been set for the record, but it is expected to land sometime in the coming weeks.

Michał Lewicki "One" http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/michal-lewicki-one/ http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/michal-lewicki-one/#comments Fri, 27 Feb 2015 17:00:12 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87317 Michał Lewicki's upcoming Ton album for Project: Mooncircle is the result of an uncoventional production process. A Polish artist who is said to have "always been searching for new ways to implement mathematics into his music," Lewicki (who also produces under the name Deam) initially began building his LP by making use of a variety of MIDI generators, MIDI delays, polyrhythms, pitch shifters, scales, and more in order to create generative sequences that would supply different results with every pass. From that base, Lewicki edited and arranged the results, adding extra instrumentation as his mathematically rooted pieces began to take shape. "One" is, well, one of the 11 resulting productions which Lewicki has deemed fit for Ton (out on March 3), and—as we suspect the rest of his LP is too—the track is not bogged down by its technically minded beginnings, instead the somewhat somber tune is instilled with the kind of unpredictable movement that gently begs for the listener's attention, keeping us leaning ever closer in to see if there are in fact any patterns we can actually wrap our heads around.

Barnt Announces Upcoming Remix 12"; Preview It Now http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/barnt-announces-upcoming-remix-12-preview-it-now/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/barnt-announces-upcoming-remix-12-preview-it-now/#comments Fri, 27 Feb 2015 16:21:13 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87331 Apparently, Barnt (pictured above) wasn't planning to release any remixes of his 2014 album Magazine 13, a record which we placed in the top 10 of our releases of the year list. It seems, though, that the combined talents of Tale of Us, Recondite, and Jens-Uwe Beyer have been enough to change that, with the Cologne-based Barnt having just announced plans to drop a two-track remix 12" by the name of Magazine 131.

According to Barnt, neither of the two remixes were officially commissioned, rather being the result of the artists taking it on themselves to rework the album track "Cherry Red" for use in their own sets. Both new versions subsequently made it into Barnt's sets too, and eventually prompted this release. Now, the resulting collaborative remix from Tale of Us and Recondite, and Jens-Uwe Beyer's solo retooling of "Cherry Red" can be previewed below before the remix package sees its official release on April 13 via Magazine.

Forrest) is set to land on Ralph Lawson's 2020Vision label late next month with the Manhattan EP. Joining Joss' breathy house production of the same title on the upcoming record will be additional remixes from Christian Nielsen, and the rework featured here from budding UK talent VAM. A more bubbly, melody-strewn affair in its original form, VAM infuses "Manhattan" with plenty of warehouse-ready vibes, as the full-bodied remix focuses on reverberant rhythmic thrusts and dark synthetic textures across its six-minute run. Set to land as part of Forrest's larger Manhattan EP package (artwork above) on March 30, VAM's rework can be grabbed below.

Preps New EP from Gavin Russom; Hear a Track Now http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/l-i-e-s-preps-new-ep-from-gavin-russom-hear-a-track-now/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/l-i-e-s-preps-new-ep-from-gavin-russom-hear-a-track-now/#comments Thu, 26 Feb 2015 17:21:37 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87273 NYC synth specialist Gavin Russom will next land on the L.I.E.S. imprint with the three-track The Telstar File EP. Serving as Russom's debut outing for the label, The Telstar File is said to find the seasoned artist "going for the throat" with a trio of "functional club tracks that teeter on the edge of the deepest psychedelic realm."

Serving as our first taste of the record, the EP's title track certainly fits that description, as it wraps a dark, twisted bassline around crisp hardware-form rhythms, and using its seven-plus minute runtime to gradually tweak its various synth lines out into the "psychedelic realm" alluded to above. Set to drop sometime in March, the complete tracklist for Russom's The Telstar File EP has been included below along with a full stream of the record's title track.

1. Mantle of the Stars
2. Brood Queen
3. The Telstar File

Rinse Announces Upcoming EPs from Geeneus and XXXY http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/rinse-announces-upcoming-eps-from-geeneus-and-xxxy/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/rinse-announces-upcoming-eps-from-geeneus-and-xxxy/#comments Thu, 26 Feb 2015 17:04:30 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87269 London radio station-turned-imprint Rinse has detailed two upcoming EPs from XXXY and Rinse FM founder Geeneus (pictured above).

In addition to recently celebrating the radio station's 20th anniversary and continuing to helm the label arm of Rinse, Geeneus has been keeping busy producing and collaborating with Katy B, among other artists. His upcoming single—which marks his first solo release in six years—is said to comprise two tough club cuts: "sparse and rolling" title track "Ele" takes its cues from grime and UK funky, while "Red Velvet" is "denser and more immersive, escalating to a dizzying whirl of harmonies and rave stabs." The record is officially due out on March 30, and kicks off a string of Geeneus releases planned to arrive throughout the year. In the meantime, the record's a-side can be streamed in full below.

Also arriving today is news of XXXY's Last Dance EP, which will see its release via Rinse on March 16. The EP is the first in a planned trio from the UK producer that are said to extend the "tripped-out, wistful style he;s increasingly come to make distinctly his own, with clouds of arpeggiated synth notes and vaporized voice rolling atop pillow-soft, droning bass." The complete tracklist for XXXY's upcoming record can be found below along with a stream of EP cut "Lately."

Portable Sunsets "Sisters" http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/portable-sunsets-sisters/ http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/portable-sunsets-sisters/#comments Thu, 26 Feb 2015 17:00:41 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87252 "Sisters" is the first cut to surface from Bless, the forthcoming second LP from Brooklyn-based producer Portable Sunsets (artwork above). Having issued his debut LP via Deadelus' Magical Properties label in 2012, the artist's sophomore album is set to arrive via the Atomnation imprint, who also released Portable Sunsets' Rental EP last year. A patiently piano-streaked outing, "Sisters" seems a suitable introduction to the producer's forthcoming effort, which is said to spend equal time exploring pillowy ambient territory as it does trading in the kind of heady, subtly evolving club music on display here. Portable Sunsets' "Sisters" production can be downloaded below, where the complete tracklist for his upcoming full-length effort (which will see its official release on March 17) has also been included.

Clark Preps New EP for Warp, Streams Track http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/clark-preps-new-ep-for-warp-streams-track/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/clark-preps-new-ep-for-warp-streams-track/#comments Thu, 26 Feb 2015 14:32:11 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87265 Longstanding Warp affiliate Clark will return to the esteemed UK label next month with a new EP. Entitled Flame Rave, the record is said to extend the "majestic explorations" initiated throughout his recent full-length, Clark, and comprises two alternate versions of tracks found on the album and some fresh material.

"I started making these ravey tunes to play out at gigs, but they gathered a momentum and gradually formed this EP," Clark says . "I came back to it again and again—it seemed to work in clubs but also as a sneaky, immersive headphone listen. I love the feel of an almost overwhelming percussive violence being suddenly flooded with heartache and melody. I find that dynamic exhilarating."

Flame Rave sees an official release in both 12" and digital formats on March 23. Until then, EP cut "Silver Sun" can be heard below, where we've also included a complete tracklist. (via FACT)

02. To Live And Die In Grantham

Will & Held "Atom" http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/will-held-atom/ http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/will-held-atom/#comments Thu, 26 Feb 2015 14:00:05 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87138 Today Leeds-based producers Will Berridge and Richard Meller (a.k.a. Held) drop their first EP together as Will & Held. Entitled Ours, the four-track record is a vinyl-only affair that includes a remix from Trus'Me and also serves as the inaugural release of the newly launched Spinning Plates imprint. Accompanying the new release is bonus cut "Atom," a initially jittery production that gradually gathers up a formidable collection of static-laden textures that twist and turn amongst the track's fast-evolving synth tones and bed of subtly morphing keys. Will & Held's "Atom" production can be grabbed below where a preview stream of the pair's new Ours EP can also be found.

The UK producer (given name Tom Russell) has been sighted in a number of collaborative projects over the past few years, working with Perc and as TR\\ER with younger brother Tessela. This latest record is said to move from "sweeping melodic experiments to a new deeper take on his trademark acid sound," and also kicks off a new series of EPs from the label that has artists work with resident designer Jonny Costello "to create a visual identity for their release that perfectly matches their music."

Kymin Lea is officially out on April 13 and a preview of the EP's title track can be heard below, where both its artwork and a complete tracklist have also been included.
