The album will be presented as one single track that spans 39 minutes, and is said to fuse Rundgren's "trippy... blue-eyed soul" with Lindstrøm's "disco epics" and Nikolaisen's "studio trickery" to result in a "cosmic mix of soul, synth, pop, and disco." Furthermore, the collaboration is said to have originated from a wintery 2012 studio session in Oslo, where the three musicians met and began to develop what would become Runddans.

Lindstrøm's, Rundgren's, Nikolaisen's collaborative LP will officially land on May 5 via Smalltown Supersound. Before then, the forthcoming record's artwork can be found below, along with the titles for the elongated musical piece's various movements (which will be split across four sides of vinyl). In addition, Lindstrøm revealed a new solo single, "Home Tonight," just last week, a stream of which can be found here.

Braille) has never shied away from a collaboration, teaming up on projects like Sepalcure (with Machinedrum), Praveen and Benoît (with Benoît Pioulard), and most recently Rights (alongside Seafloor). Now, the New York-based artist has chosen to focus on his longstanding solo moniker, Braille, for the upcoming Mute Swan LP, which follows closely behind his Everyone’s Crazy EP that dropped via LA's Friends of Friends label earlier this year. Returning to the imprint, Sharma's upcoming record features appearances from Angelica Bess, Throwing Snow, Seafloor, Jesse Boykins III, and Olivia Sholler—all of whom are said to help Braille "invert hip-hop and house music influences into a deeply humanist, guest-vocal filled journey."

In addition to the announcement, Sharma has shared a stream of "Better Than Nothing," an LP cut which pairs Angelica Bess' murky coos with jazzy waves of percussion. Mute Swan will be released via Friends of Friends on May 5; until then, the forthcoming record's full tracklist and a stream of "Better Than Nothing" can be found below.

Nosaj Thing) has been contributing to LA's electronic landscape for more than six years now, largely being affiliated with the city's longstanding beat scene centered around the Low End Theory club night. On his forthcoming third full-length record, Fated, Chung appears ready to branch out a bit beyond his beat scene roots; describing the production process behind his new record, Chung says "I just tried to escape really, and escape even what's going on in the music world." Featuring guest contributions from Chicago rap talent Chance the Rapper and Sacramento artist Whoarei, Fated is also said to focus on a stripped-down approach and "a perpetual feeling of déjà vu."

Along with the announcement of Fated, Nosaj Thing has shared lead single "Cold Stares," a minimal R&B cut that finds Chance the Rapper delivering a humble verse over forlorn, swelling pads. Until Innovative Leisure releases Fated on May 5, "Cold Stares" can be streamed in full below; the upcoming record's artwork can also be seen above, and its complete tracklist can be found below.

BNJMN) has consistently crafted his own brand of atmospheric techno tools, releasing with an impressive list of labels including Delsin, Rush Hour, Svetlana Industries, and Stolen Kisses, among others. Now, Thomas has announced plans to launch an imprint of his own, BRACK, which will debut next month with a new BNJMN EP simply titled BRACK 001.

Ahead of the record's relaese, the producer has shared a full stream of EP cut "Penumbra," a skittering drum workout with operatic samples and slow-burning pads; before the EP drops on April 6, "Penumbra" can be heard using the player below. (via Resident Advisor)

Funkstörung Reunites, Announces New LP http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/03/funkstorung-reunites-announces-new-lp/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/03/funkstorung-reunites-announces-new-lp/#comments Wed, 04 Mar 2015 17:01:08 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87550 Nearly a decade has passed since Funkstörung released its last studio album, The Return to Acid Planet, but German producers Christian de Luca and Michael Fakesch have finally emerged with news of a forthcoming, self-titled LP which will arrive via Monkeytown this summer. Describing the production process for Funkstörung, the veteran duo explains, "By now we don't have to prove to anyone that we know how to program complex beats, breaks, and glitches (which became obsolete with new technology anyway)... to us it was more important to write good songs." In addition to the announcement, the producers have shared a free download of edited album cut "Laid Out," which features a breathy vocal contribution from Funkstörung's "good friend" Anothr — a mysterious artist from the duo's hometown of Rosenheim, Germany.

While we await for the full details of the upcoming Funkstörung LP to arrive, and ahead of the record's official release on July 31, an edit of the pair's "Laid Out" production can be streamed and downloaded below.

Ozy) has landed with a new LP via the nothings66 imprint. Incorporating a number of cold, textured originals alongside remixes from the likes of Laurel Halo and Miles Whittaker, Thorlacius' new Distant Present LP serves as the producer's first full-length effort since 2002. To celebrate the record's release (it is out now in Japan and officially arrives in the US, UK, and Europe on March 25), Ozy and nothings66 have gathered a few additional remixes such as this one from Berlin-based sound artist and vibraphonist El Fog. Taking on "Alltaf Eins"—a cut from Ozy's 2002 LP, Gray Area—El Fog creates an hypnotically immersive expedition, burying precise sub-bass pulses and bits of microscopic percussion beneath richly detailed layers of electronic abstraction. El Fog's rework of "Alltaf Eins" is available to grab for free below, where a sampler of Ozy's new Distant Present album has also been included.

Operating under his given name, Lustman says the forthcoming album will focus on music that he "would DJ with or play to friends without the pressure of the conceptual weighing him down," and with a genre palette that spans hardcore and soul. Titled The Crystal Cowboy, the LP will see Lustman returning to his early label home with 11 new tracks, and with New York rapper Le1f serving as the record's sole guest vocalist on "Onyx."

Wallwork & RZR "Ibada Funk" http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/03/wallwork-rzr/ http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/03/wallwork-rzr/#comments Wed, 04 Mar 2015 14:00:37 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87520 Over the past eight months, the UK pair of Wallwork & RZR have maintained a regular presence in XLR8R's Downloads section, and right on schedule, the duo has returned to the fold with "Ibada Funk," a bonus cut from the group's upcoming Don't Panic EP. Slated to arrive via newly launched East London label Nervous Horizon, the record appears set to find Wallwork & RZR continuing to craft mangled pieces of full-bodied club music, an artistic aim "Ibada Funk" certainly signals is alive and well for the pair. Riding a heavy-handed skip for most all of its five-minute run, the production laces its booming kicks and sharpened snares with layers of more cosmic sonics: slowly revolving pads, spacey chords, and distant FX fill the spaces left empty between the track's formidable rhythmic structures. In addition to offering "Ibada Funk" here, Wallwork & RZR have also shared a preview stream of its forthcoming Don't Panic EP (which features a remix from Deft) below; the record will serve as the Nervous Horizon imprint's inaugural vinyl release when it lands on March 16.

DIVA and Iron Galaxy Prep New 12" as N / Y / X http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/03/diva-and-iron-galaxy-prep-new-12-as-n-y-x/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/03/diva-and-iron-galaxy-prep-new-12-as-n-y-x/#comments Tue, 03 Mar 2015 19:06:57 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87472 The Obsession label has announced the debut release from a new collaborative project between Matt Didemus (a.k.a. former XLR8R podcast contributor DIVA, who also serve as one half of Junior Boys, the proprietor of the aforementioned imprint, and is also pictured above) and his fellow Canadian Adam Hodgins (a.k.a. Iron Galaxy), a former Bubblin' Up artist.

Operating together as N / Y / X, the two-track "Love Haze" b/w "Kalamazoo" 12"—which was apparently "the result of a 10-day jam session in Utrecht"—finds the pair firstly turning out a strain of techno that skillfully blends heavy rhythmic elements with linear, propulsive grooves, and then hitting on more restrained, pastoral territory on the record's b-side. Preview clips of the 12" can currently be heard below, while the record's artwork and tracklist has been included below ahead of the effort's March 23 release date.

Joining two originals from the budding talent on Entropolis will be a pair of remixes from Dutch producer Magensii and Estonian talent Kask, whose take on Teleskop's "WMAP" production is featured here. A swinging, soulful affair streaked with bubbling arpeggios in its original from, Kask buries "WMAP" beneath layers of warm analog distortion and moody, wide-spanning pads, making the track more suited for the dark corners of the dancefloor than Teleskop may have originally intended. Having already contributed an EP to the Dutch label's growing catalog, Kask is set to return to Legendary Sound Research on the imprint's next outing; in the meantime, the producer's remix of "WMAP" can be grabbed for free below.

Actress Announces Upcoming DJ-Kicks Mix Album http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/03/actress-announces-upcoming-dj-kicks-mix-album/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/03/actress-announces-upcoming-dj-kicks-mix-album/#comments Tue, 03 Mar 2015 16:55:33 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87478 !K7 has announced that the 49th edition of its venerable DJ-Kicks mix series will come from revered UK artist Darren Cunningham (a.k.a. Actress). Though XLR8R did manage to enlist Cunningham for a rare podcast a year ago, the producer's DJ-Kicks outing will serve as the London artist's first official commercially available mix.

Set to feature cuts from the likes of Autechre, John Beltran, and Gherkin Jerks, Cunningham has this to say about the hour-long offering: "When I'm selecting music I'm not always thinking about the music alone. I'm thinking about the names of the artists, tracks, and labels, and what they mean to me. I often base my tracklisting purely on how well the track titles work together in a poetic sense. I've tried to keep space between tracks, allowing them to speak. I tried not to force BPM shifts and to let the programming remain choppy and quick."

Actress' DJ Kicks mix will be available in both digital and CD format, while nine of the mix's tracks will also be available in unmixed form on a vinyl release. As is traditional with DJ-Kicks mixes, Actress' installment will also feature an unreleased track by the artist himself; entitled "Bird Matrix," the production was apparently recorded just after the completion of Cunningham's fourth album, Ghettoville. The artwork and tracklists for both the mix and the companion vinyl can be found below ahead of their May 1 release date.

With nine of the record's (mostly) ambient expeditions having been originally crafted to serve as the score for a video installation by David Hartt (also titled The Republic), the visual artist has here returned the favor, stitching together a number of disparate pieces of video to serve as the visual accompaniment to Prekop's "Weather Vane" composition. A bubbly, meandering endeavor, "Weather Vane" twists and turns for just under four minutes as a sequence of black-and-white images join the track's hypnotically unhurried run.

The video for Prekop's "Weather Vane" production can be watched in full below. In addition, Prekop has also passed along the details for a slew of upcoming tour dates which will find him bringing his modular constructions to life alongside fellow The Sea and Cake member Archer Prewitt; those dates have also been included below.

Podcast 377: DJ Haus http://www.xlr8r.com/podcasts/2015/03/podcast-377-dj-haus/ http://www.xlr8r.com/podcasts/2015/03/podcast-377-dj-haus/#comments Tue, 03 Mar 2015 15:00:30 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87240 DJ Haus is a master of excess, and anyone familiar with the DJ/producer/label boss/YouTube profligate likely knows this all too well. Heading up both Unknown to the Unknown and the Hot Haus imprint, the London resident has issued a seemingly endless string of reliable house, techno, and UK garage records via his labels, all with an insatiable taste for cheeky bombast and dancefloor theatrics. His own production output is no less unstoppable; both as DJ Haus and in his Trumpet & Badman project with DJ Q (not to mention the now-defunct Hot City duo), the consistently prolific artist has built a sizable body of jacking, bass-loaded club music with an ear for classic sounds, all of which reaches as far back as 2008. (Hot City did its XLR8R podcast back in 2010, too.) Just about every solo entry DJ Haus makes in that extensive catalog arrives via one of his labels or some quasi-official digital avenue, but his latest release, the four-track Helta Skelta EP, just dropped courtesy of Clone's busy Jack for Daze imprint (one of our 2014 favorites, naturally). Suffice it to say that we don't need any more of a reason to ask a seasoned pro like DJ Haus to contribute a session for the XLR8R podcast series.

Once again, it'll be no surprise to the initiated that what DJ Haus has turned in to us goes big on everything. His mix is 35 tracks of high-octane dancefloor energy: an hour and a half chock full of twitchy ghettotech, restless house grooves, and nasty bassline monsters—plus a handful of unheard dubplates for good measure. Most of the podcast features material from contemporary producers (save for a couple trusty standards, like Paul Johnson's "I'm a Freak"), but it all nonetheless pushes a classic aesthetic with rugged hardware workouts and blippy, adrenaline-hungry tempos. DJ Haus appears to have no trouble showcasing the crowded rosters of his label pool and other like-minded outposts, while also dropping his own productions into the whirlwind affair. Those ADD sensibilities can seem a bit fickle here, and yet they're methods which pay off with striking regularity. In that sense, DJ Haus' exclusive mix for XLR8R might actually be the perfect analog for his career on the whole.

Maurice Puls "Sly Simon" http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/03/maurice-puls-sly-simon/ http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/03/maurice-puls-sly-simon/#comments Tue, 03 Mar 2015 14:00:21 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87444 Last year a London transplant by the name of Terrell dropped a pair impressive productions via our Downloads section, first sharing the closing cut from an untitled EP for the First Second label and then offering a rolling house endeavor for download a few months later. Now, Terrell has returned to the XLR8R pages under a new guise, Maurice Puls, with "Sly Simon," one of three tracks set to appear on a forthcoming EP from his new alias. Set to again see the producer releasing with All City offshoot First Second, the untitled record and "Sly Simon" appear to find the budding artist adding a more mechanical edge to his club constructions, as the six-minute track fits plenty of clattering sheets of metal and industrial hits between its full-bodied kicks and snares. Along with the download of "Sly Simon" below, the rest of Maurice Puls' upcoming EP can be previewed below before its official release later this month.

Om Unit and Sam Binga Drop New Collaborative EP; Stream It Now http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/03/om-unit-and-sam-binga-drop-new-collaborative-ep-stream-it-now/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/03/om-unit-and-sam-binga-drop-new-collaborative-ep-stream-it-now/#comments Mon, 02 Mar 2015 19:38:14 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87434 UK artists Om Unit (pictured above) and Sam Binga have combined forces on the Transatlantic EP, a new four-track collaborative effort that drops today. Serving as the Bunit label's inaugural release, Transatlantic finds the production pair fusing together drum & bass, Om Unit's familiar "fast/slow" constructions, and a number of other percussive club music strains to result in a darkly fast-paced affair.

With its limited vinyl run appearing sold out in most online stores, Om Unit's and Sam Binga's Transatlantic EP is still available digitally beginning today, and is also available to stream in full below.

Check Out a New Remix from Andy Stott http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/03/check-out-a-new-remix-from-andy-stott/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/03/check-out-a-new-remix-from-andy-stott/#comments Mon, 02 Mar 2015 18:26:58 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87425 Pulled from his recent Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper LP for Domino, Panda Bear's "Boys Latin" track has received a remix treatment from Andy Stott (pictured above). On his rework, Stott completely reshapes "Boys Latin," letting the original production's vocal layers only occasionally peek through, and even then while being wrapped in additional ambient layers. The rest of the Manchester producer's six-minute remix digs deep beneath static-lined textures and retooled bits of industrial percussion, making for something that is altogether darker and much more aggressive than Panda Bear's original. Stott's dark-tinted take on "Boys Latin" can be streamed in full below.

Djinji Brown "Waterfalls in Dub" http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/03/djinji-brown-waterfalls-in-dub/ http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/03/djinji-brown-waterfalls-in-dub/#comments Mon, 02 Mar 2015 17:00:19 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87378 Today, longstanding house selector Osunlade's Yoruba label has dropped Only to Survive the Diaspora, an 11-track compilation featuring new productions from the likes of Drala, Afefe Iku, and Osunlade himself. Included in the collection is "Waterfalls in Dub," a soul-steeped affair from Djinji Brown which rides a sharp procession of hand-played percussion across the entirety of its six-minute run. Fitted atop Brown's stream of hand drums and shakers are waves of Rhodes chords, fluttering strings, bursts of synth bass (as well as a good deal of live bass), and occasionally, some watery field recordings which give the placid club tune its title. Djinji Brown's "Waterfalls in Dub" can be downloaded below, where a 10-minute preview of Yoruba's new compilation is also available to stream.

Janis Preps New EP for Tasteful Nudes; Preview It Now http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/03/janis-preps-new-ep-for-tasteful-nudes-preview-it-now/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/03/janis-preps-new-ep-for-tasteful-nudes-preview-it-now/#comments Mon, 02 Mar 2015 16:48:03 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87401 Emergent producer Janis will deliver the seventh release for Argot offshoot Tasteful Nudes later this month. The Frankfurt-based artist dropped two 12"s in 2014—one for Mirau, the other for his own House is OK imprint—but his forthcoming You Can't See Me EP will mark his first release of the new year and his Tasteful Nudes debut. The EP contains three lush, synth-driven deep house outings, and features vocals from Eva Kruijssen and Denise Frickenschmidt as well as samples reportedly collected from around Janis' family cottage.

Before You Can't See Me sees an official release in both vinyl and digital formats on March 23, clips for all three EP tracks can be heard below.

2. Tender Love

Crackazat "Eye Light (Sunset)" http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/03/crackazat-eye-light-sunset/ http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/03/crackazat-eye-light-sunset/#comments Mon, 02 Mar 2015 15:05:34 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87373 A consistent home for quality house music (often of the jazzy and disco-infused sort), Sweden's Local Talk imprint will soon add the first full-length artist album to its always catalog in the form of the Crescendo LP from Crackazat. A Bristol-bred producer, Crackazat now calls the Swedish city of Uppsala home, which is where he crafted the 13 tracks which make up his debut LP. A Floating Points-esque highlight from the record, Crackazat has given his "Eye Light" production (which can be heard in its original form here) a slight reshaping, deeming the result the "Sunset" version of the track, likely due to the production's warm organ chords and joyously swung rhythms. Crackazat's "Eye Light (Sunset)" tune can be grabbed for free below ahead of the Crescendo LP's official release later this week, on March 6.

Seven Davis Jr. Wild Hearts EP http://www.xlr8r.com/reviews/2015/03/seven-davis-jr-wild-hearts-ep/ http://www.xlr8r.com/reviews/2015/03/seven-davis-jr-wild-hearts-ep/#comments Mon, 02 Mar 2015 15:00:16 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86991 Seven Davis Jr. has been on a roll ever since debuting in 2013 with One, one of the best vocal house records in recent memory. He's since showcased the breadth of his production chops and the range of his voice with releases on Classic, Apron, and Ten Thousand Yen—exploring the sounds of frenzied funk, jacking house, raw instrumentals, and experimental R&B. For someone with such a comprehensive sound, an album seems like the obvious next step, and UK label Ninja Tune has snapped up the Texas-born, California-based artist for his debut full-length later in the year. Beforehand, they've served up Wild Hearts, a two-tracker that reminds us of the years Davis spent working in more radio-friendly realms before he sunk into the underground.

His ability to write a catchy hook really stands out on "Wildhearts"; it's perfectly suited for credible clubs, but also sounds like a pop hit. The repeated refrain gets lodged deep in your brain—as a proper pop song should—coming through a mire of fuzz like an ill-tuned radio receiver. Underpinned by elastic bass licks and energized with quick, crunchy claps, it's a bulbous jam that oozes funk, which Davis closes with a tender Rhodes solo. It's a feel-good party jam on the surface, but there's real personal pain underneath. Lines like "As I jump back on the horse, I still think of you regardless" add a genuine emotional resonance that elevates "Wild Hearts" above your average DJ tool.

On the flip, the much shorter and to-the-point "Let Somebody Love You" might be meant for the same person mentioned in "Wildhearts," but after a few drinks. Kinetic and angsty, the b-side's distorted synths gurgle constantly below Davis' crisp vocals as he pleads to be taken back by his lover. Candid and full of palpable energy, both tracks feel like living snapshots of Davis' world rather than coldly calculated computer grooves.

Maya Jane Coles Readies LP as Nocturnal Sunshine, Streams Lead Single http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/03/maya-jane-coles-readies-lp-as-nocturnal-sunshine/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/03/maya-jane-coles-readies-lp-as-nocturnal-sunshine/#comments Mon, 02 Mar 2015 14:51:16 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=87392 Maya Jane Coles has revealed details of her debut album as Nocturnal Sunshine, her "dark and dubby, bass-driven alter ego." The British-Japanese producer has kept the alias quiet in recent years, focusing instead on DJing and producing under her own name and piloting her I/AM/ME imprint. The upcoming LP is described as "eminently dark and—at times—menacing," and "a heady journey steeped in dancefloor tradition... that portrays another side of an artist." Coles' own vocals will feature throughout, alongside Chelou and Argentinian singer Catnapp.

Before Nocturnal Sunshine arrives on May 26 via I/AM/ME, album single "Take Me There" (streaming below) sees a digital release today, with a 12" version that includes bonus cut "Never Too Late" becoming available on Record Store Day on April 18.
