KNX) has unveiled a new project for Stones Throw, NxWorries, which will find the prolific beatmaker collaborating with burgeoning R&B vocalist Anderson.Paak. While no official release plans for the pair have surfaced, Knxwledge and Anderson.Paak have today shared a full stream of their first single together, "Suede." Featuring the brand of effortlessly loose and soulful beatwork Knxwledge has consistently delivered over the years, NxWorries' debut single can be heard via the player below. Furthermore, the new track comes again with word that Knxwledge is currently working on a solo full-length album for Stones Throw; his recent (and quite excellent) contribution to the label's ongoing podcast series can still be streamed in full here.

Filmed in 2013, the narrative focuses on a 24-hour period of studio life for artists like Teebs, Thundercat, Daedelus, Matthewdavid, Ras G (pictured above) and more. Orlando Volcano "Worst Night in New York So Far" http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/orlando-volcano-worst-night-in-new-york-so-far/ http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/orlando-volcano-worst-night-in-new-york-so-far/#comments Wed, 11 Feb 2015 18:00:56 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86478 A Brooklyn transplant (by way of Europe), Orlando Volcano has let loose a handful of new tracks over the past week, with the final piece of the puzzle being the subdued "Worst Night in New York So Far" production. A hybrid affair, "Worst Night in New York So Far" appears to take a few cues from the Fade to Mind camp's brand of club music, while also incorporating some elements from the more ethereal side of the Tri Angle spectrum. Led by a charging procession of rolling snares, the track utilizes snippets of choir-like voices and reverb-soaked bells to provide the melodic balance to the tune's sparse hats and dark, bellowing bassline. "Worst Night in New York So Far" can be downloaded in full below, while Orlando Volcano's other recent free offerings ("Neva Gonna Put U Down" and "Tool & Die") can both be picked up via the artist's SoundCloud.

Dusky's 17 Steps Label Preps New EP from Christian Piers http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/duskys-17-steps-label-preps-new-ep-from-christian-piers/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/duskys-17-steps-label-preps-new-ep-from-christian-piers/#comments Wed, 11 Feb 2015 17:07:15 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86498 After launching the 17 Steps imprint with an EP of its own last July, enterprising UK pair—and former Artist Tips contributors—Dusky have announced plans to release the label's first record from an outside artist in the form of Christian Piers' Beat Wiser EP. The UK producer (who serves as half of the Laszlo Dancehall project alongside Leon Vynehall and has also operated under the name A1 Bassline) will deliver three new productions on the upcoming effort, all off which are said to have served "regular fixtures" in Dusky's recent DJ sets. Furthermore, the pair describes the EP's title track and "Onn" productions as "club tools in the best sense; precision engineered, weighty grooves with plenty of unique touches to hold the interest," while the record's lead track is said to "harken back to classic techno drum tracks, but with a sharp UK angle."

Piers' Beat Wiser EP is slated to land via 17 steps on March 16; in the meantime, the record's artwork is included above and its tracklist can be found below.

As we alluded to in our recent feature on Daly, the artist's upcoming 11 51 36 41 2 EP will consist of five simply titled techno productions which float just above the 130-bpm range, representing somewhat uncharted territory for the increasingly active Daly, who has built up much of his reputation as a producer of lush, chord-soaked house constructions.

Daly's debut effort for Janson's esteemed imprint does not have an exact release date at this time, though it is expected to arrive in the coming weeks. In the meantime, the artwork and tracklist for Daly's 11 51 36 41 2 EP have both been included below.

Consisting of Greek techno/house producer Giorgos Lemos (who operates simply as Lemos) and saxophonist/experimental artist Ilan Manouach, the group is set to release a new EP via the Athens-based six d.o.g.s., Entropy, which will serve as the Glacial project's first release since issuing its self-titled debut LP in 2012. Ahead of the EP's release later this month, Glacial has offered up the aforementioned "Wisteria" production as a free download to XLR8R readers. A dreamy dancefloor excursion that spans over seven minutes, "Wisteria" is propelled forward by deep, rolling rhythms, which serve as the foundation for the track's enveloping layers of detailed textures, dense atmospherics, and dubbed hits. Glacial's "Wisteria" can be downloaded below before the pair's Entropy EP lands on February 23; preview snippets of the Greek outfit's upcoming EP have also been included below.

Ahead of its release, the label has passed along the Boogieman EP's closing cut, "Boys Club," as a first taste. Peppered with chirpy field recordings, the production comes built on the back of a clattering drum machine rhythm, on top of which Infamous Boogieman lays a handful of airy chords and occasional spurts of slap bass. The brisk closing cut from the Brooklyn artist's forthcoming Boogieman EP can be downloaded below before the full effort lands on March 17.

Joining two original productions from Tessela on the record will be a remix by Livity Sound co-head and recent XLR8R podcast contributor Kowton, who has been enlisted to deliver a "OTT Mix" version the EP's title track.

Said to find Tessela "further deconstructing and stripping back his sound" (and to have been partially inspired by "a frenetic session in the days after hearing Ben UFO's Fabric Birthday party DJ set"), the three-track Bottom Out EP will see its official release on March 24. The man behind 2012's all-conquering "New For U" has been relatively quiet on the release front since that track's release, though he did collaborate with Moodymann last year on the track "Lyk U Used 2," and has remained active under his hip-hop alias, DJ Dez.

Previews of the three soul-washed tracks that make up Andrés' forthcoming Believin' 12" can be heard now over at the FIT Distribution site, and unsurprisingly, they seem to suggest the Motor City veteran is very much sticking with the warm house sound that has long been his trademark. Ahead of its release next month, the forthcoming record's tracklist has also been included below.

The forthcoming LP is said to be "a deeply personal and intimate album created for everyone," with its nine tracks having been recorded in Höppner's Berlin studio throughout 2014.

"I decided to call my album Folk because I feel that we all work with a sonic vocabulary that was developed by a relatively small set of pioneers 20 or 30 years ago who took their cues from disco, which was influenced by R&B, Funk, Soul, etc, down to the most primal ritualism of tribal drums," Höppner explains. "I also called this [LP] Folk as the blueprint of this music was laid out on what were originally cheap instruments from a dusty thrift store, he continues. "In 1985, the TB-303 was the equivalent of a worn out acoustic guitar. Today this is reflected by the immense and accessible power of creation found in a $500 laptop running a crack of Reason or Ableton."

With all that in mind, Höppner's debut LP is set to land via Ostgut Ton on March 30. In the meantime, the German producer has let loose a full stream of LP cut "Rising Overheads," which has been included below along with the upcoming album's complete tracklist.

Later this year, the burgeoning Womack plans to issue a concept EP of sorts, but before then, he has passed along "Flares," a deep club track which drizzles an array of cosmic chords atop its sturdy four-on-the-floor. "Flares" isn't without its twists though; halfway through its seven-minute run, the track turns its aims towards a more sparse dancefloor structure, adding a few spacey bell hits and extra percussion knocks before again diving back into its sweeping chords.

DVS1) is the subject of the latest installment in Resident Advisor's Origins documentary series (an effort done in partnership with Sonos). Over the course of the 30-minute film, Khutoretsky discusses his early upbringing; the son of Russian immigrants (who split up shortly after landing in Minneapolis), Khutoretsky spent much of his adolescence in and out of trouble, constantly switching schools, and eventually being arrested for some of his activities. Meanwhile, Khutoretsky had begun to steadily increasing his musical efforts, first throwing illegal parties and raves, before eventually moving on to more legitimate efforts and—for a short time—owning a club of his own in Minneapolis.

Containing a number of entertaining, unbelievable, and ultimately inspiring stories from the American artist's early days as a DJ and promoter, RA's Origins profile of DVS1 (who also supplied the first essay in our Real Talk series late last year) can be watched in full below.

Stylistically aligned with "something like grime," the forthcoming effort was reportedly inspired by the UK producer's move to Croydon and its local club scene, and spans four new "sour sound" constructions. "This EP started as war dubs for Keysound nights," explains Damu. "I really like the competitive vibe of the scene in London and I worked on the EP across Manchester, Sheffield, and Croydon from 2013 to 2014."

"Since my debut album my wiring has changed completely," he continues. "It's the sonics of individual sounds that gets me hyped now, and I think this EP reflects a bit more of a mathematical approach to music-making."

Holed up in the Hovel follows from two previous outings for Keysound (2011's Unity LP and the Ridin' 12") and is officially due out on February 23. No previews have been shared as of yet, but the EP's artwork has been included above and its complete tracklist can be found below.

Now, Jempere has enlisted a crew of artists to help him revisit Objects for a forthcoming remix EP which will feature the likes of Jacques Renault, HNNY, Inkswel, and Polish newcomer Selvy, whose take on Jempere's "Järvi" is featured here. Billed as an "interpretation," Selvy reshapes the dark and loose track into a much breezier affair, one pushed forward by a light disco bounce and kept afloat by a steady stream of tropical chords and lively percussion hits. News of the esteemed Berlin-based DJ/producer's first full-length effort surfaced back in January, with details of the record—released via Vincent's own Novel Sound label—regularly cropping up on his Facebook. This afternoon, Vincent posted a download link to his wall along with a message thanking his many supporters over the years. "This is music for the ugly ducklings of the world. Music for swans," he concludes. "If you're a member of the rat race, climbing around a dumpster with the other rats vying for power, you may of course listen, but know—this is not music for you. This is action against you."

Levon Vincent hits record stores tomorrow, and the LP can be downloaded in its entirety here.

The Chicago DJ/producer and Smart Bar booker has released her signature sample-heavy disco-house via Argot, Stripped & Chewed, and The Nite Owl Diner, in addition to logging frequent DJ appearances throughout Europe and the US. This latest session is described as a "kinetic and athletic mix that goes from deep and heady to jump-up and jacking, from diva vocals to dazzling disco… that both starts and ends with a fat-bottomed reggae swagger." No tracklist is provided, but the nearly 70-minute recording can be streamed and downloaded below.

The interest generated around Vancouver's apparent house renaissance over the past year has been hard to ignore, with party-turned-label collective Mood Hut among its primary ambassadors. Local retailer Pacific Rhythm has championed output from Mood Hut's members first as an online supplier, and more recently as an imprint, with Cloudface and Hashman Deejay appearing on its  inaugural compilation. Earlier this month, Pacific Rhythm announced it would also be opening a physical outlet (located at 441 Gore Avenue), which launched yesterday with an in-store party featuring Mood Hut fixtures Hashman Deejay, XLR8R favorites Pender Street Steppers, and Neo Image. The six-hour session was broadcast live and can be streamed in its entirety below.

Venuq "Pixação" http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/venuq-pixacao/ http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2015/02/venuq-pixacao/#comments Mon, 09 Feb 2015 14:00:03 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86347 The low-rumbling "Pixação" serves as our first introduction to Venuq, a Leeds-based newcomer who also contributes to the Rhodo Dendron project alongside fellow UK producer Bambooman. A gloomy production, "Pixação" teeters on a heavy-handed stomp, adding a growling bassline and a continuous supply of textured field recordings and dubby chords to the mix across the track's five-minute run. "Pixação," the budding Venuq's introduction to the XLR8R faithful, can be downloaded in full below.

Kieron Ifill). The London producer—who we profiled as part of our Get Familiar series back in October—held down a six-year residency at Jazz Café and issued EPs via WotNot and Wild Oats proper before arriving on No Room for Air. His upcoming Mist 7" for the fledgling Detroit imprint comprises three soulful house originals, and while some copies have already turned up at select retailers, the EP (tracklist below) is officially due out on February 16. Until then, its a-side title track can be streamed in full below, courtesy of Boiler Room Debuts.

Shcaa Debuts on Blank Slate; Hear Previews Now http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/shcaa-debuts-on-blank-slate-hear-previews-now/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/shcaa-debuts-on-blank-slate-hear-previews-now/#comments Mon, 09 Feb 2015 11:33:45 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86370 The ninth release from young Berlin-based label Blank Slate will arrive in the form of a two-track EP from Parisian upstart Shcaa. The vinyl-only imprint was founded in New York by Kamal Naeem and Soren Jahan, who now co-heads the Supply label and partners with John Barera as B-Tracks. Described as "not for the impatient, the submissive, or the unadventurous," Blank Slate 009 includes two minimalist, nuanced collages built from field samples, nodding toward the Villalobos-inspired material released on the label under Jahan's Düve and René Audiard aliases.

Blank Slate 009 follows from previous label offerings from the likes of Michal Wolski, Arnaldo, and White Visitation (who XLR8R singled out as one to watch during Bubblin' Up week 2015) and is officially due out on 12" vinyl on March 1. Until then, both tracks from the EP can be previewed below.

Deadboy Reveals Upcoming Single for Crazylegs http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/deadboy-reveals-upcoming-single-for-crazylegs/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/deadboy-reveals-upcoming-single-for-crazylegs/#comments Fri, 06 Feb 2015 19:25:53 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86340 After recently sharing a free EP of edits via his SoundCloud, London producer Deadboy gas revealed plans to deliver his first official release of the year later this month in the form of the "It Did Not Feel Right" single. Set to arrive via Bristol outpost Crazylegs, the single follows behind last year's Return EP for Numbers and is said to take shape as a "shimmering new-age vocal cut," with thick chords and sparse percussion serving as the bed to a series of re-pitched R&B vocals. Set to drop on February 16, the artwork for Deadboy's forthcoming digital single has been included below.

Software Readies Debut EP from Tairiq & Garfield; Hear a Track Now http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/software-readies-debut-ep-from-tairiq-garfield/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2015/02/software-readies-debut-ep-from-tairiq-garfield/#comments Fri, 06 Feb 2015 18:41:42 +0000 http://www.xlr8r.com/?p=86302 Oneohtrix Point Never's Software label has announced plans to issue the debut EP from Tairiq & Garfield, Childhood Swing. Twins born and raised in Pasadena, California, Tairiq & Garfield make up two-thirds of the Renaissance Music Group production crew alongside Software labelmate Napolian. The twins come from a very musical background, with their father being a founding member of the R&B group Shai, and their mother forermly a rapper on Eazy-E's Ruthless Records imprint. The two look to have taken full advantage of their studio-bound early years, forging a textured cyberfunk sound that in some ways echoes the likes of Egyptian Lover, Legowelt, and Drexciya, and that has earned the pair an imminent release on Software.

Childhood Swing will officially drop on February 23. Before then, Australian producer/visual artist Dro Carey has put together a memorable clip for EP Cut "Hood Low," which can be watched in full below, where we have also included the artwork and tracklist for Tairiq & Garfield's forthcoming Software debut.
