Mary Anne Hobbs: West Coast Rocks

Music obsessive Mary Anne Hobbs has the power to make and break emerging artists on her influential BBC Radio 1 show. So when she takes a profound interest in a new music scene, you know it's something special. Lately, she's been so tapped into the what she calls West Coast Rocks—L.A. and San Francisco bass-heavy producers such as Flying Lotus, Daedelus, Lazer Sword, Ghosts on Tape, Samiyam, and Gaslamp Killer (just to name a few)—that she made a special pilgrimage to see it with her own eyes. Here, she discusses the impact this scene has had not only on her, but on music globally.

Great and honest analysis. I've been saying the same thing about the LA scene. There is a serious movement in SoCal, dwarfing anything else in the US, with worldwide praise. And there are many many more producers putting in work. NUTS. h o l l a . http://92bpm.com/

I'm glad she's paying some much overdue credit to the West Coast scene but damn i couldn't finish listening to her blase word vomit. Does she even know anything about music? Besides using blow job adjectives like incendiary? I don't really know anything about her, besides the fact that the BBC thinks she has cred.

myth building. I had no idea I was supposed to be that impressed with flying lotus. Is it because he's on a UK label? hmmm So are a lot of the other artists shes hyping while she's not talked about teh roots of the scene or daddy kev whatsoever.

B_Man & Anonymous
you haters make me sick..
why not post about something you feel positive about?
i had funded and resourced a mission to LA myself to explore the scene a year ago when this film was shot.. because even an ocean away, i could feel something special was happening.. and i was there to research it.. and to learn..
Daddy Kev, Low End Theory, The Gaslamp Killer, Mono/Poly, TAKE, Exile, Teebs, Samiyam et al have since enjoyed huge support on my BBC show..
and at major events like Sonar Festival where GLK played my stage in front of 8.5 thousand people...

B_Man go fu(k yourself. Maybe incendary aint so blowjob in the UK. You American think the Brits talk funny? Maybe she do talk abit dodgy but she's very enthusiastic. When she mixes live every muthafukka sure listens.
You don't know about her? Then learn you dumb fu(k. What's knowing about her got to do with shit anyway?
B_Man, you come across as a huge C_Man. You know what I mean?
