Special extended hours ** 9 pm - 4 am **
Deep Space is evolving into a monthly party at Output.
Deep Space is saying goodbye to its weekly party at Cielo. We’re continuing our journey to a galaxy called Brooklyn.
After a break in September, we’ll present
one final party at Cielo
Sunday, Oct. 9
with François K.
Nicolas Matar (Output/Cielo)
& very special guest
(who we will happily announce closer to the date).
AFTER OCTOBER 9, DEEP SPACE WILL BE MOVING INTO A MONTHLY SCHEDULE
While we have absolutely cherished our time at Cielo, and love the club’s incredible team and stellar sound system, we also feel there is a tremendous creative community in Brooklyn who embrace Deep Space’s sense of adventure. Output’s phenomenal Funkion One Sound System will give our maestro, Dj Francois K., the opportunity to take us on bigger music journeys; the type that have continually won him “best resident dj” awards during Deep Space’s 13 year history. We are so grateful to the entire club community for everyone’s loyalty, positive vibes, and good hearted support over the years. You have all been the most remarkable dancers, artists and team players, and we hope you will ever consider yourselves who you truly are: our family.
NICOLAS MATAR (Output/Cielo)
It seems only fitting that Nicolas Matar play at Deep Space. After all, as one of the key visionaries behind Cielo and our soon-to-be-new-home Output, Nicolas has stood committed to our creative bookings and given us invaluable support. It takes profound passion to keep a party like Deep Space alive for as many years as we have, and Nicolas has been essential to our longevity. Only a real music head could be so committed to Deep Space. Nicolas is that one. And so, after 13 years of Deep Space covering the music gamut, it's time for Nicolas to give us his very own Deep Space set. We couldn't be more excited.
Matar's been crowding dance floors as a DJ since he was just 15 years old and working at the legendary Washington, D.C. dance club Fifth Column. From there, he went on to spin at Ibiza's internationally recognized Pacha before landing in New York and opening the celebrated Meatpacking District mainstay Cielo. Through all of this, Matar kept his ears to the ground and his feet on the dance floor as he circled the globe to take in the latest in club culture. “I am someone who travels the world constantly, going to music festivals and hearing DJs,” he says. “I'm a true participant.”
Nowhere is that more apparent than at Output, Matar's multi-venue Brooklyn dance club, which boasts a one-of-a-kind Funktion-One sound system and is widely considered to be the premier destination in North America. “Before Output opened, I started spending a lot of time in Berlin, where I became a regular at Berghain and Panorama,” Matar says, naming two of Europe's best-known clubs. “It was becoming harder to attract music aficionados to Cielo's Manhattan neighborhood, so I decided I wanted to open a Berlin-inspired club in Williamsburg.”
As a resident at Output, Matar's global viewpoint comes through. He's an annual favorite at big-ticket events including Electric Daisy Carnival and Robot Heart's Sunrise Sets at Burning Man, where he plays everything from deep house to tech house to disco and techno. “I play an eclectic mix of quality music,” Matar says, “and I don't like to be a DJ who only sticks to one genre.”

Deep Space, is an adventure into future dub, spacey vibes, and abstract grooves featuring resident DJ François K. live on the mixing board with special guests.
Since the party’s launch in 2003, Deep Space has featured a who’s who of well known and then emerging artists from around the world representing a stunning array of musical styles that Deep Space is known for integrating into its open minded aesthetic. While the mission of Deep Space remains committed to sharing a love of dub, a vast, under-appreciated musical direction, the party has invited a great range of guest artists to share their creative dub mixing approaches to all things spacey, psychedelic and mind-bending.
From dubstep pioneers such as Mala, Kode9 and Digital Mystikz, to house, techno & disco icons such as Giorgio Moroder, Dimitri from Paris, Theo Parrish, Rhythm & Sound, Ron Trent, Carl Craig, Scuba, Joe Claussell, Derrick May, to cutting edge producers and tastemakers such as Gilles Peterson, Jamie xx, Mary Anne Hobbs, Mr. Scruff, DJ Spooky and dub legends such as Adrian Sherwood with Pinch, Mad Professor, Mutabaruka and U-Roy, and Brazilian icons Otto with Carlinhos Brown and plenty of live musical and dance performers, Deep Space continues to be a magnet for attracting many of electronic dance music’s most innovative artists. Almost all of the guest artists who play at Deep Space create truly one-of-kind, crate-digging "Deep Space sets."
Deep Space has been presented abroad at the Big Chill Festival (UK), Plastic People (UK), TDK Cross Central Festival (UK), Space Lab Yellow (Japan), Café Jamaica (Japan), Precious Hall (Japan), Phase (Japan), throughout France, in Berlin, Denmark, SONAR Festival in Barcelona and across the U.S. In 2010 Deep Space received a dedicated night at Burning Man’s Disorient camp. In 2004 Deep Space was nominated for “Best Club Night” by the internationally televised “DanceStar USA” awards. In 2005 & 2006 François K. won “Best Resident DJ Award” at the Club World Awards held in Miami. Deep Space was named “Best Party 2004” in Time Out New York. Deep Space was nominated for “Best Party,” at the Club World Awards 2006 and 2007. New York Magazine featured Deep Space in the “Best of New York 2006” issue. In 2013 Do Androids Dance lauded Deep Space as one of “The 10 Best Club Nights in the US.” Francois K. was named "Best Resident DJ" by the 2015 Nightclub Awards. Also in 2015 Time Out New York listed Deep Space as "one of the top 20 parties in NYC right now." In 2005 Deep Space NYC Vol. 1, a compilation mixed by François K., was released on Wave Music’s imprint Deep Space Media to critical acclaim.
