Doc Martin’s live sets truly bring people together.
The variation in his style of music is endless. What makes him so different from the rest? A unique ability to spin everything from deep house vocals that have much depth and meaning to us all in some way, to his funky tribal Bass lines mixed with threads of acid, his passive collection of classics rare records that are only to be heard at his gigs.
Doc Martin has developed the respect as a house DJ that so many of us admire. It is this respect that keeps him constantly touring; from New York to London, San Francisco, Los Angeles to Japan, and everywhere in between.
Always sitting slightly off-centre, Jay Tripwire is an artist that walks the line as industry staple and ever changing innovator,
releasing one standout release after another. His signature fusion of deep Detroit textures and intricate rhythms has led a career spanning two decades, with over 200 releases and four full length albums. He remains one of the most prolific artists around, with 18 EP’s and a whole host of remixes having dropped during 2010, for labels including Tonality, Pokerflat, 1Trax, Baker Street, Deep Data, SOCO Audio and System.
Most recently he’s completed a compilation mix for Steve Bug’s respected label Pokerflat – ‘Shaping Elements Vol.8’ which features a blend of deep house ranging from Detroit inspired textures to modern European house and tech house fusions,
blurring genrefication. This follows releases on the label under his 8Channels name - a project that melds basic channel, soul and dub into a new hybrid soundscape of techno, deep house and dub. The moniker also appears on other highly regarded labels such as Ransom Note, Conya, NRK, Cinematic and Hallucination.
Whilst the term ‘legendary’ is often bandied about with little thought, in Jay’s case we could say just that - his personal arsenal of re-edits and comfort in arranging extended DJ sets lasting eight hours or more certainly demonstrates a talent that deviates from standard fare. Jay also still supports, buys and plays vinyl, and actively seeks out records to play at gigs, when Tripwire is on the decks he plays a vinyl CD set that contains no laptop djing. Jay’s work has been featured on numerous compilations, notably from Cocoon, Fabric, Renaissance, Journeys by DJ, Ultra & Bedrock, and is supported by a diverse spectrum of dance culture from house luminaries such as Doc Martin and Kerri Chandler to techno legends Steve Bug and Laurent Garnier. And now with anticipated releases and remixes imminent, the Tripwire production wheel is still very much in motion, and on its way to a turntable near you.
In terms of influence, Dansman began his electronic musical journey with the likes of DJ Tiesto (the “Magik” mix series) then moved onto luminaries such as the Chemical Brothers, before settling onto the bleeding edge of underground house and techno. Now, Dansman takes as much joy from listening to Top 40 Rap/R&B as he does listening to vinyl-only white labels, making him uniquely qualified to know what people want before they know themselves.
His #BODYFEEL series, founded with platonic life-partner Throe, combines urban sounds with a techno aesthetic so naturally you'd think people would have been doing it for years. A rising comet in the DC scene, Dansman has honed his skills for over five years, playing sold-out shows in shotgun bars for tens of people. With a bi-monthly residency at DC’s hottest underground dance club, Flash, Dansman improves his profile with every record played.
