HORST is an arts and music festival in and around the iconic castle of Horst in Holsbeek, Belgium.
On Friday 11 and Saturday 12th of September HORST programs a variety of international innovators in music such as Benji B, Job Jobse, Tama Sumo b2b Lakuti, Palms Trax – Live, Gerd Janson, Jeremy Underground, Midland, Sinjin Hawke b2b Zora Jones, Lapalux - Live and visual artists such as designer/sculpturer Kaspar Hamacher, visual duo Children of the Light and visual artists Filip Dujardin and Lodewijk Heylen.
In 2014 HORST set foot with a sold out debut edition, a lot of good feedback out of the industry and three nominations in categories ‘Best Breakthrough’, ‘Best Artwork’ and ‘Best Festival’ for the annual ‘Red Bull Elektropedia Awards’ a Belgian derivative of the international RBMA. Last year looked like this: https://vimeo.com/110404894
2015 brings a second, ambitious edition in which HORST will grow till 2500 visitors a day. On top of that HORST will focus on its international positioning and its unique vision on art and music. This year HORST programs two equal stages with a variety of adventurous, leftfield names in electronic music. The castle will see significant more arts integrated in its surroundings. The two-day festival counts as the opening ceremony for a two-month exposition in public space afterwards.
The visual art presented at HORST, curated by Gijs Van Vaerenbergh, strives to offer the visitor another viewpoint at the site. While the music festival is short and intense and uses the castle as a backdrop. The visual arts focus on the castle and its surroundings, providing visitors a chance to reflect. HORST’s art offers a diversity of media, such as temporary installations, sculptural work, two dimensional work, video art, performance and applied arts. The two-day festival counts as the opening ceremony for a two-month, autonomous exposition in public space afterwards.
All art has its own story relating to the castle’s context, during the festival crossover work will fuse art with music. The two-month exposition focuses on in-situ work, specifically created for the beautiful location of the Horst castle and its water and woods. The transition from summer to fall will offer the castle site and its newly created arts a natural but interesting transformation in time.
