On 16th April, Oval Space Music presents an all night long performance from Japanese maestro DJ Nobu, with a very special guest in the form of Berghain resident Tobias.
DJ Nobu is, quite simply, one of the finest DJs Japan has ever fostered and produced. Along with compatriots Yuki Masda, Ken Ishii and Fumiya Tanaka, Nobu has been flying the flag for a particular strain of tough, hypnotic techno in his home country since the late 1990s. In Japan, he is most widely known for his fabled Future Terror parties, an event he’s run out of his hometown Chiba for over ten years. But it is as a DJ and record collector that Nobu is truly special. While most DJs lean on old favourites and the tried and trusted, Nobu’s selections speak to the wealth of music that remain undiscovered, and inspire us to keep digging deeper. It’s a pleasure to welcome a true master of the DJing for an all night long session on April 16th.
He’s supported by a live set from very special guest Tobias. It’s hard to succinctly define Tobias Freund’s long, distinguished career. Across two decades he has written two full length albums for Ostgut Ton; collaborated with legendary electronic oddball Uwe Schmidt and revered experimental musician Max Loderbauer; and dabbled in post-punk, synth-pop, rich experimental soundscapes and sleek, brutal techno. Not least of course, Tobias. has enjoyed a long-running residency at revered Berlin institution Berghain On 16th April, Tobias. will be bringing the heavier side of his broad musical palette to Oval Space, performing his vaunted live techno set in what will be a rare London appearance.
